It's not a matter of policing everyone in the street. But you can tell your customers to be quiet and pick up their trash. You can also refuse them entry if they're being disruptive.

A simple solution would be to rope off a smoking area and give people wrist bands. If they leave that area, they're not allowed back in unless they pay again, at which point they're no longer customers and you've absolved yourself of any inherent responsibility.

It's not brain surgery. Plenty of other clubs and bars have rowdy patrons who don't generate the volume of complaints that Studio B does. At the end of the day, Studio B is a crappy "corporate citizen" and they're paying the price.

How would a private club be able to police people on the street in its vicinity? I don't think they have the authority to control the streets. I guess they could stop paying off the cops to stay away, but that seems to me to be as far as they could go.

Phineas Gage, I second that emotion!
They're complete assholes over at Studio B, so no WONDER they're trying to pass the buck to the patrons instead of taking responsibility for their security issues.

I'm not sure why Studio B thinks that taking the position that its customers are the source of problems is somehow a wise move. Then again, these are the same idiots who opened a rooftop area without proper permits, so you can't expect an intelligent argument from the bunch.

The simple solution is for Studio B to properly "police" its customers. This means clearing them off of other people's property; cleaning up after them; and, ensuring that they conduct themselves in an adult manner. Just because the neighborhood is industrial and there's no shortage of drunk people doesn't absolve the club of its responsibility.

It annoys me to no end that people will apologize for business owners' stupidity just because they like a business. You can run a club successfully without pissing off your neighbors, but Studio B's owners obviously haven't gotten this memo.

I would love to see this attitude-heavy, expensive, velvet-rope, nonsense craphole shuttered. And I don't even live nearby. I'm just embarrassed for my city that places like this exist.

All these comments about public urination, on a street full of warehouses, are beyond ridiculous. I am reiterating here a comment that I made on another site earlier today:

"I have read most of the commentary here on this subject. Having frequented Studio B often, and having observed how they actually conduct business, I find many of the remarks that have been made (lack of bouncers, lack of supervision outside and upstairs, people meandering up and down the street by others’ stoops) to be false. If you just google the address and take a look around the street view, you can see that the complaints about garbage in front of this building and the supposed number of neighbors within steps from the entrance are greatly exaggerated. You’re in Greenpoint. If you’re saying you never saw a stumbling drunk in that neighborhood before Studio B, then you’re not living in “Little Poland.”

To put it in perspective, take a look at PS1. PS1 throws a HUGE party all day long on Saturdays during the summer. There are thousands of people there, which I’m pretty positive is over capacity for that museum. They make an excessive amount of noise. They have apartments literally adjacent to and, in the open air, on top of their establishment. They make a ridiculous amount of trash. They have not once applied for a Department of Buildings permit to put up any of the structures that they build in the outside area. These structures are over people’s heads. They throw a dance party every week and yet have no cabaret license. They are also one of the most unique, interesting and fabulous places to visit (and to party at) in the world. Let’s enforce one of the most outdated pieces of legislation that had the misfortune to find itself on the books in New York and advocate shutting them down, too. Then NYC can be really interesting."

I lived nearby 4+ years ago when it was a crap polish club and nobody complained. The roof deck is pushing it tho. I think if they could have gotten anybody to move in upstairs things would have been different.

Studio B brings great acts to BK and I'm glad to have them there. Most nights I've been aren't particularly crowded and the outside noise doesn't seem to bad. Seems like they could give a little and still keep on going strong.
