Last Night's Action: Razor-Thin Margin

• Marlins 7, Mets 3: This game started by everyone hailing the continued resurrection of Fernando Tatis (who hit an RBI triple in the second). It ended with the Mets barely clinging to a half-game lead over Philadelphia and a full-game lead over Florida. What caused the change? John Maine left the game after 4 1/3 innings with what is being called a stiff shoulder. That sounds ominous, though he didn't seem to be in that much pain. After letting the Marlins tie the game at 2, the Mets retook the lead in the top of the eighth on an RBI groundout by Tatis. Then Joe Smith came in for the bottom of the inning and the wheels fell off. Amazingly, Scott Schoeneweis couldn't stop the bleeding. The good news is that Pedro Martinez is officially set to return to the rotation Friday.
• Orioles 13, Yankees 4: That 10-game home winning streak for the Yankees is history. Mike Mussina didn't have it. Orioles starter Jeremy Guthrie did. That added up to a long night. Johnny Damon had a homer, as did Xavier Nady in his first home game, but those came way too late. The Yankees trailed 11-0 at one point. Darrell Rasner will try to stop a two-game skid Tuesday.
