AMNH Releases a Lifetime's Worth of Photos

The American Museum of Natural History has culled together their collection of historical photos online in an overwhelming library that documents their exhibits, dinosaur displays and dioramas from construction to completion. This is all part of their online exhibit, titled Picturing the Museum: Education and Exhibition at the American Museum of Natural History. They note that the "exhibitions within the Museum building grew from the simple rows of specimen cabinets to more sophisticated representations of the natural world, both living and extinct." My dad was a museum guard at that museum for a

about 10 days in 1923 while a young musician.

He had to quit as he was on the night shift as He

got the willys (willies?) from all the creaking sounds of

the wooden exhibits and echo's in the hallways.

Any old employee photos?

The AMNH continues to be my favorite museum in the whole city. The dioramas may not hold up to some of the more exciting stuff out there these days, but they are still one of the more amazing things around when you think of all the work that went into them. Not to mention the fact that the dinosaurs are every little boy's dream come true.
