Today's (Pre-storm) Pool Line

0807mcline.jpg

A couple of weeks ago, the McCarren Park Pool line flowed through the sidewalks for The Breeders free show. Today a reader sent in this photo of the line for MGMT (pronounced "Em Gee Em Tee"), taken just before 2 p.m. However, the skies have darkened and now there's a severe thunderstorm watch, so chances are the line has dissipated if you want to brave the weather.

UPDATE: This just in from the pool at 5:30 p.m. "The Parks Dept. is threatening to shut the pool down if they let anyone else in." Also, Kirsten Dunst has been spotted.

MGMT = radio friendly indie rock. They should've played NYU. It has a roof + all their fans.

I'm so glad that this place is closing so I don't have to hear about it or see pictures of annoying hipsters. I mean just look at these clowns. I hope they all got soaked.

bbny, you are a dick.

what makes those people clowns, other than they decided to do something different than you?

The line was pretty fucking crazy. It stretched four blocks in one direction from the park, then another four or five blocks from there.

BBNY, I couldn't agree more! What the hell are these people thinking by going to listen to some music in an all but abandoned pool on a Sunday afternoon. Can't wait till this closes! Hopefully it'll become a Chipolte with a J. Crew next to it.
Those people in the photo need more khakis and blue button downs. Crazies!

Rfive you're a dick and all hipsters are clowns. Williamsburg is a clown neighborhood with a bunch of idiots who are as boring as you. From the horned rim glasses to the need to be cool and fit in, there's nothing remotely interesting about them. Plus they are too stupid to look at a weather report or carry an umbrella (because that's not cool)Is that clear enough?

Wow By. Hipster hating is a non issue, dummy. In the end, there is no such thing as a hipster. What do you consider yourself to be? A non-hipster? An other-than-hipster? Take your head out of your TV culo and get a life. WTF.

BBNY is posting on a "hipster" blog. I guess that makes them one too.

He's just trying to prove that he's a born and bred nu yorker. Nothing says boring bred new joker as hating on hipsters. Because none of them could possibly be from new york.

I didn't know the breeder's show was free?
guess I'm not hip enough, anyway it should go back to being a pool. if and when williamsburg becomes the next hot hood, it should have more recreational facilities. not a floating pool, a roof top pool but a real municipal pool that costs two bucks to get in for the entire day.

If they turned it into a real functional pool again, the hipsters would go elsewhere for their bland hip breed of entertainment.

Brilliant.

i saw this line yesterday. it was absurd. At that moment i knew there'd be a picture of the line on Gothamist and an argument in the following comments thread over "hipsters" and whether these kids suck or not and what a fucking hipster is and etc etc etc

conclusion: I'm sick and I need help.

@hungryghoast. hahah. i actually had a similar line of thought yesterday when i saw the line too.

there were people walking up and down the line recording it. i'm surprised video hasn't surfaced yet on gothamist to fuel the hipster argument fire.

I waited on line for almost 2 hours, only to be told by the promoters that no one else would be allowed in.

My friends and I had a blast on the line, drinking beers and sharing "line" tales of woe with our neighbors.

In the end, a number of us ended up pushing through the barricades to hear the last few songs.

All in all, it was a great day!

I'll always bash hipsters whether you clowns think it's cliche or not. This is my city just as Dayton is yours.

waited three hours only to be told they were at capacity. a friend's brother waited on line and scammed his way in. didn't know that this band was that popular. oh well. no more free concerts for me in brooklyn.

Why do people who were 'born and bread' in NYC feel the need to claim this city as their own and hate on any new trends (i.e. hipsters), which makes NYC the melting pot that it is and has always been.

The last time I checked the only 'non-transplants' were the Native Americans.
