- Yankees 1 Red Sox 0: The Yankees had a great night on and off the field Friday. Joba Chamberlain showed why the Yankees were smart to move him to the rotation with seven shutout innings at Fenway. Joba was brilliant, striking out nine and allowing only three hits and walking one. It was a good thing for New York because they couldn’t score. Jason Giambi drove in the lone run of the game with a single, that only was a single because the Red Sox had employed “the Giambi shift”. But, Joba made it hold up and Mariano got a five-out save to send the Yankees to their seventh-straight win.
Off the field, the Yankees filled two of their biggest needs with a trade for Damaso Marte and Xavier Nady. Marte gives the Yankees another late inning reliever and a lefty to boot. Nady provides New York with a righty power hitter and someone to take Hideki Matsui’s place in the outfield.
- Mets 7 St. Louis 2: Mike Pelfrey got back on track with a great start, allowing only one run while striking out five, but the headline act was Carlos Delgado. Delgado continued his resurgence with a two-run homer, his 20th of the year. Endy Chavez added four hits and Argenis Reyes went two-for-three.
- Liberty 69 LA 68: Janel McCarville hit the game-winner with six seconds left to propel New York to the win.
