Lil' Kim and Foxy Brown Busted by Simon & Schuster

foxykim0807book.jpgRappers Lil' Kim and Foxy Brown (otherwise known as Kimberly Jones and Inga Marchand) were separately contracted to write books for Simon & Schuster...but after collecting their advances, each failed to produce manuscripts. By not making good on their words, they were each delivered a lawsuit in New York State Court yesterday.

The NY Sun reports that Jones received a $40K advance for her booked titled, "Untitled Novel" and Marchand received $75K for hers, called "Broken Silence" -- the former is four years late, and the latter is two years overdue. C'mon ladies, even 50 Cent turned in a manuscript for the publishing house! However, maybe they should be cut some slack since they each did some jail time when they (or a ghost writer) could have been laying down some ink about their lives. And besides, Kim was busy writing her other book, The Price of Loyalty, due out later this year through St. Martin's Press.

The two would-be authors now have the publishing house asking them to return the advance royalties, plus interest (Lil' Kim was already paid a visit by the repo man so getting that money back from her may be a pipe dream, S & S).

Even if they come through with the books, it is highly unlikely that either "author" will be enshrined in the Western literary canon in the manner of, for example, Tolstoy, Emerson, Flaubert or Joyce.

while 50 cent maybe gansta, he has the right advisors on his side: i.e. his vitamin water investment is a great example. when VW went public he cashed in on $400,000,000.

Let 'em keep the money as encouragement to NOT write (i.e. dictate to a ghost writer) about themselves. Or put out more "music," for that matter.

Have you ever tried to write a book? If it was easy everyone would do it. It takes years of introspection and organization. When your friends are out partying at 2 AM, you're sitting in front of your computer drinking Red Bull, looking up synonyms. Does this sound like a typical day in Lil KIm's world?

Do business with "gangstas" and get robbed. Surprised?

How is Lil' Kim going to write a book when she has trouble reading?

Both are complete idiots like 50 Cent.

How the hell is this book gonna read? "YO YO Yo! Wassup! Yaknaw wa I mean?" for 300-400 pages? No thanks.

ghost writer?!

Ahh that takes me back. Cheesy shit but I loved it.

Nobody ever offers me money to not write a book. Once again, I guess I'm in the wrong profession.

Dear Simon and Schuster: please allow humanity to pass the hat and collect $115,000 for your troubles. We do so merely out of appreciation for the fact that these two books will never be written or published.
