  • From the Gothamist Newsmap: Car vs. building at Cross Bay Blvd and Pitkin Ave in Queens, a pedestrian struck at Eastern Parkway and Classon in Brooklyn, and a stabbing at 14th & 8th Ave in Manhattan.
  • The wife of the former NYPD sergeant who was killed by police earlier this week won't comment on her husband's death because she wants to mourn him, but did say "lies" suggesting he was involved with his friend's murder pushed him over the edge.
  • Resident at an East 28th Street Manhattan apartment building are fed up with all the break-ins and have hired a private security company to supplement the doormen.
  • Sigh: The Reverend Al Sharpton won't be on Dancing with the Stars or Celebrity Apprentice. He's focusing on voter education instead.
  • A-Rod got rid of divorce lawyer Ira Elegant (who represented Shaq in his divorce) and has picked up two female divorce attorneys.
  • Small campaign contributions (under $250) in NYC have grown this year.
  • And if you have a Flowbee, you might have made this Greenpoint resident's dream come true.

5 seconds after that photo was taken, the inattentive, helmetless biker ran into a jaywalking pedestrian and bashed her head into the side of the ambulance.

...no, not really, but I don't understand why Gothamist is glorifying unsafe biking.

Man, if had a Flowbee, I'd totally do it. Dying to find out if anyone fulfills this guy's life long wish.

she usually wears a helmet. i think they were on governor's island. isn't it like suburbia over there?

Um, so what if it was Governor's Island? You can still have an accident and bash your head in (with or without traffic, especially when there are lots of pedestrians around as there can be on Governor's Island).

People who ride without helmets are reckless dumbasses. End of story.

oh jesus. why don't you pad the sidewalks fer chrissakes or make people wear helmets while walking just in case they trip, fall and hit their head.

and while we're at it, we should ban people from doing two things at once, because we now know a person can't ride a bike and smile for a camera.

enjoy life a bit more and stop gWhining.
