EVENT: In conjunction with the exhibition Nessie Does New York, join Dr. Macnab (Cryptozoologist) tonight for Monetizing Myth, Legend & Culture. She'll explore and explain "the origins, symbolism and hoaxes that populate the field. Hear tales of sightings, notorious exploits, scandals and fantasy that surround these tales and the science that guides Cryptozoologists."

6:30, 7, 7:30, and 8 p.m. // apexart [291 Church St] // Free

0807chopshop.jpgMOVIE: Socrates Sculpture Park's Outdoor Cinema series presents a screening of Chop Shop tonight (watch the trailer). "A deeply affecting slice of urban neorealism, this Queens-made film, set in the Willets Point Iron Triangle near Shea Stadium, follows a 12-year-old orphan who ekes out an existence with his teenaged sister." Josephine's Soul Food Café will provide food (for sale) and The Robe Crowe Situation will provide the tunes.

7 p.m. // Socrates Sculpture Park [31-01 Vernon Blvd, LIC] // Free

THEATER: You’ll recall that Gothamist has great faith in the curators of the Ontological Theater’s Incubator series. So we have no qualms about recommending, sight unseen, tonight’s premiere of Foreign C., “about a reporter who watches the 20th century pass by from hotel bars and the scaffolding of unremembered buildings. The Foreign C. records monstrosity, traversing metropolis, time, and gender, never aging, hardly feeling, always humming a sweet little song.” The movement play-with-music, which ends Saturday, is the work of German-American physical theater company Kinderdeutsch Projekts. – John Del Signore

8 p.m. // Ontological Theater at St. Mark's Church [131 East 10th Street] // $17

MUSIC: Dan Torres, Will Stratton, Anthem In and Ambulance Ltd. visit Rehab tonight (the old Club Midway) for what's being billed as a "secret show" (nice job). Ambulance Ltd. plays the much larger Bowery Ballroom tomorrow night, so head to Avenue B tonight for the more intimate show. Unfamiliar with their sound? Think 2004 and My Bloody Valentine-influenced bands and you'll get the idea.

8:30 p.m. // Rehab [25 Avenue B] // $3
