And what about the price of comic books these days?!!!! Holy crap!!!! Go back to $1.25, non-glossy pages, and four-color printing.

I used to pay $10 for a copy of The Sunday Times until I smartened up and now catch the fun on the web. Yes, A.A.Gill's restaurant reviews look better in print, but the newspapers will only exist for another decade or so before they are all gone. Nobody reads them and nobody wants to pay for them.

Stock down 72%... And the solution is to raise prices?

[1] What magazines are you buying? Every one I see costs $5 and up.

[3] $4.50 is not that crazy. I've seen other Sunday papers in other cities for almost that much, and they're almost completely fluff. At least with the Times, you actually get some real news.

[9] Think about the storefront rent in that area. The bodega owner might still be just eking by at $1.25 per soda.

The fact of the matter is that people love to gripe about rising prices, but you can't really criticize without knowing what the costs are. Last I heard, newsprint was going up quite a bit.

It seems a bit foolish, given the state of the newspaper industry. Typically charging more will result in people buying less.

I still read the Times, but why buy the hard copy when you can all the content (and constant updates) online for free? If you need something to read on the subway, bring a book or grab an AMNY or Metro.

Why read the times, if one can read Gothamist?

I was thinking the exact same thing last weekend.

I was chillin' at a bar with a copy of the Sunday Times and found myself deeply bored. I remember thinking to myself "Wow. I'd much rather be reading Gothamist."

I just canceled my home delivery because they couldn't get the delivery part right. You'd think with the problems they're having that they'd at least try to deliver the paper to the actual front door of the people who actually pay for it, but nope.

Is it weird that a daily newspaper now costs more than some magazines?
