EVENT: The American Museum of Natural History gets boozy tonight, as they "Discover the Mint Julep." The lecture is part of their series Adventures in the Global Kitchen, which highlights cultures around the world through their cuisine. "Attendees of Mint Julep: The Official Drink of the Kentucky Derby will taste a bit of history as master mixologist Chris McMillian, former beverage director of the Library Lounge in New Orleans, shares his famous mint julep recipe with David Wondrich, contributing editor, Esquire magazine. These recognized authorities on drink lore and the American cocktail unveil the fascinating history of the mint julep while mixing up McMillian’s recipe."

phpqqanJsPM.jpgMUSIC: A triple threat tonight at Union Hall as Bound Stems, Rahim and The Muggabears take the stage. Bound Stems haven't been playing much lately as they've been working on their latest album, The Family Afloat. Allegedly their live show is the only place to pick up the new tunes before its official release in September. Listen to one of the new tracks: Happens to Us All Otherwise.mp3

DEBATE: Debates at Lolita Bar presents a panel discussion on "Women Who Have Sold Their Eggs -- with egg-producers Valerie Bronte (5'10" Foucault-studying grad student), Diana Fleischman (evolutionary psychology expert), and Kerry Howley (senior editor, Reason magazine)." The night is hosted by Todd Seavey and moderated by Michel Evanchik.

THEATER: The Public Theater’s website warns that their revival of the hit ‘60s rock musical Hair “contains smoke effects, strobe lighting, adult content and nudity.” Need more convincing? Among those baring all for the love-in is former Spring Awakening heartthrob Jonathan Groff (who plays Claude) – so expect the line for tickets to stretch from the Delacorte in Central Park to somewhere down by Bowling Green. (Of course, you can try bypassing all that with the Public’s new “virtual line” system.) Previews begin tonight, with an official opening August 7th. – John Del Signore
