There was another police-involved shooting this morning: Around 7AM, retired NYPD sergeant Jason Aiello, who had escaped from a hospital's psychiatric ward, was outside his home in Rosebank, "armed with a few weapons and screaming." Police say they repeatedly asked Aiello to drop his weapons, but when he didn't, he was shot in the head. WABC 7 suggests it could have been "suicide by cop," and the police told the Advance Aiello's children were "in the immediate vicinity." Aiello had worked as a bodyguard for a Staten Island jeweler who was gunned down in May. Aiello was present and the FBI has been investigating that case, suspecting that jeweler Louis Antonelli, who may have worked with the the Genovese crime family, could have been targeted by the mob.

Some bodyguard.
I think I speak for the majority of Gothamist when I write, "Up yours, Bingo."
I say Good aim, officers.
one less.
I think I speak for the majority of civilized people when I write, "Up yours, JacqueMehoff."
You don't say? you mean I won't get another Christmas card this year? and, I was looking forward to it.
@Spirit, I guess I'm in the minority of civilized people then, because no matter where you come from a head shot is definitely good aim. Unless, of course, the officer was aiming for his chest.
Also, don't let Bingo's igno-rants get to you. He's a bit on the de-de-de side, rides the short bus and needs to have his diaper changed every few minutes.
bingo has been ripped not one, but TWO assholes. Anyone for a third?
Amazing how you guys immediately jump to conclusions. Do we really know the full story yet?
[7] So you're part of the minority that's positively giddy that there's "one less" living person on the planet?
[10], I wouldn't exactly say that I was giddy, but I am relieved that a violent, demented person (possibly linked to the mafia) is no longer on this plane of existence to threaten the rest of civilization.
I'm just happy a whitey got shot this time.
the fact that he's in the mafia, even better.
we got a bad guy off the streets, too bad he was once a cop.
happy, giddy, if that's the same to you, so be it.
What a crazy story with all sorts of weird angles.
...I think I hear a Law And Order writer walking by...
