Christian Bale Arrested, Accused of Assaulting Mother and Sister

phpYILuGsAM.jpgWhile in London over the weekend to attend The Dark Knight premiere, Welsh actor Christian Bale was arrested after his 61-year-old mother and 40-year-old sister reported him to the police for assaulting them on Sunday night in his suite at London's Dorchester Hotel, on the eve of the premiere. Bale is still being held by police, but the Guardian has it that he was temporarily released from custody to attend the premiere, do interviews and other important stuff that puts movie stars above the law. It’s also unclear what sparked the alleged assault, but Bale’s mother is rumored to be a huge Michael Keaton fan.

UPDATE: Bale's attorneys have released the following statement denying the assault allegations: "Christian Bale attended a London police station today, on a voluntary basis, in order to assist with an allegation that had been made against him to the police by his mother and sister. Mr. Bale who denies the allegation, co-operated throughout, gave his account in full of the events in question, and has left the station without any charge being made against him by the police. At this time, there will be no further comment by Mr. Bale."

UPDATE 2: TMZ now says that "sources directly connected with the Christian Bale case" confirm "there was physical contact between Christian and his mom, but it amounted to next to nothing. We're told Bale pushed his mom out of the way during the altercation. She was not hurt and did not fall down. There's a division of opinion on whether the contact was a 'push' or a 'brush.'"

Earlier TMZ speculated that in England "there is such a thing as verbal assault... with 'an intent to cause alarm'. Was Christian's offense mouthing off to mom?" And People has it that Bale was released today "with a 10-man police escort, in a blacked-out silver Mercedes people carrier." So! Much! Gossip! Between this, Tricia Walsh-Smith and the salmonella scare, this is starting to remind us of the Summer of the Shark and Condit.

lol good one

Bizarre. Think he's one of the best actors out there. If this has any truth to it then there's a fine line between between genius and madness. Maybe he was "prepartying" a bit too much before the premiere or upset Heath would upstage him.

Did one of them insult Whitney Houston?

Who's the Joker now?!

If you check out the pic used for the Tricia Walsh-Smith story, I think you'll find out.

Bateman.

Batman.

Think about it, won't you?

Or not.

They must have interfered with his returning of video tapes.

Roid rage.

honestly I think that might be iot.

I think that was a joke, like "Who's the Joker NOW?! --not like, who's the chap that plays the joker in the new movie.

And, um, wow, that Tricia Walsh Smith pic IS scarry!

one of the best actors out there is Daniel Day-Lewis.

I smell rehab.....

Fun fact: he is/was Gloria Steinem's stepson.

"On September 3, 2000, at age 66, she married David Bale, father of actor Christian Bale. The wedding was performed at the home of her friend Wilma Mankiller, formerly the first female Chief of the Cherokee Nation. Steinem and Bale were married for only three years before he died of brain lymphoma on December 30, 2003, at age 62." (Wikipedia)

Come on Gothamist...The assault didn't take place in the hotel suite.

from the BBC article:
"It has been reported that the assault allegation was originally filed at a police station in Hampshire."

Looks like the Batman has gone a little batty

Assault is not a physical attack - he may have called them stupid crazy bitches in an angry way and as per they filed a police report.

@ savedbyzero: Did you read even what you wrote or the BBC article? Didn't think so.

Obviously Bale, in researching his role as Batman, stumbled upon this comic book panel and is attempting to "be" the role.

[16] No, that is not assault. In UK law, assault is doing something that makes the other party fear for their safety. Just calling them a name won't do that. Some kind of threat would be more appropriate.

Actually, he just misread the script. It says "sets out to avenge his mother" and he thought it said "sets out to assault his mother."

he's a method actor, maybe his new role entails domestic abuse?

"he's a method actor, maybe his new role entails domestic abuse?"

dimshine, domestic abuse is not funny. Let me tell you a story about my father. My father was a drinker, and a fiend, and one night he goes off crazier than usual. Mommy gets the kitchen knife to defend herself, he doesn't like that, not one bit, so me watching he takes the knife to her, laughing while he does it and then turns to me and says "why so serious?". Comes at me with the knife "why so serious?" Sticks the blade in my mouth "lets put a smile on that face" annnnnnnnd why so serious?

Bravo Zodak, bravo. You win.

Maybe an aftermath from American Psycho =D

And yes ... that was intended as a joke ... sarcasm ... =)

What is a "MErcedes people carrier"?
Is that a funny limey term for car?
By that logic my pants should be called a cock shield.

Did someone have to Bale him out?

It was Bruce Wayne that hit them women.
