The guy was a stiff pure and simple-was a huge distraction to Manning who flourished without that ballhog in the line up. He is a tight end for crying out loud-block for the run and catch a few balls if you are lucky. He wanted to be some superstar-well good luck with the Aints. He is lucky if he passes the physical

@gwerty: Perchance you missed his constant tendency to drop wide open third down and touchdown passes. He wanted the ball all the time but wasn't a particularly GOOD receiver. And, yes, as 2nd and 5th round pick is a good haul for any NFL trade. NFL teams rarely trade players.

This is just stupid. He never caught anything because we used him for blocking all the fucking time. God only knows why, considering that he's known for his catching and not his blocking. If used correctly, he could have secured our offense's spot in the upper echelon of the NFL. Now there obviously were some personal issues. Fine, if things can't be worked out, trade him. But for a 2nd and 5th round pick? Why didn't they just trade him for a bag of doritos and a pack of camels? The saints are a team on the way up, not down. Now they're gonna be a solid playoff contender. We just traded a 4 time allstar for peanuts.

He'll fit in better with the locals in Lousiana with that sheet over his head. How anyone puts up with him is one of the great mysteries of the NFL.

@HowBoutDemCowboys, I said he needed a lot of looks. I'm talking 10 or more touches a game, to keep linebackers off balance and force the secondary to compensate. I think this was a good move for both teams. He'll thrive in New Orleans and the Giants get the picks.

@bxbrian, Nah. Those fees would come out of the players' salaries. @TimSPC, the problem with your theory is that Shockey would not play that system. He didn't want to be used so that others would be open to receive the ball. He always wanted the ball himself.

I was a Shockey fan, but the guy was hurt too often. Also, I'm not sure Coughlin knew exactly how to use him. Shockey is a much better player when he is used to stretch the defense, he needs to get a lot of looks so WRs wind up open more often, too. Force safteys to cover him, that sorta thing.

He is a good player but selfish and this will clear some salary cap for Plax who deserves a new deal. Cap room is not the thing holding up a new deal for Plaxico. It's the fact he's apparently got some injury problems and the fact the Giants just drafted his replacement.

I don't know whether my ex-roommate is going to be ecstatically happy or morosely sad over this since he's a Saints fan. I actually feel sorry for his team, just like I felt bad when the Cowboys got T.O. I can't stand Owens or Shockey and neither can their teammates. The NFL should start a whole new team in Alaska and put all of the troublemakers from the other teams on it. They could be called the Nome Nuisances.

he was entertaining to watch, that is for sure. but the Giants will be better off without him. shockey never seemed to learn that there is no I in team.

While Shockey is definitely an above average TE, he need lived up to the hype and acclaim that he's received. He's not worth the headache and the Giants received fair value in their deal.

Hopefully he'll be a better fit with NOLA--I'd love to see that team build on it's season two years ago (ending in that painful Bears game). Maybe it'll be another Sean Avery-to-NY situation?

Good riddance. Although he is a good tight end, he was never a team player; it was all bout him. Giants won the Superbowl without him, so thet don't need him.
