Strip Club Owner "Had No Respect" for Lap Dancers

2008_07_stripclub.jpgThe lawyer accused of operating a strip club/brothel in Midtown was held on $150,000 bail, as was his wife. And his employees spared no details about Lou Posner while talking with the tabloids.

Posner and wife Betty owned the Hot Lap Dance Club on West 38th Street, which featured strippers, sex shows and "private rooms" where police claim customers could buy more intimate time with dancers, not to mention procure drugs from a house dealer. One dancer told the Daily News, "He had no respect for us," while another said, "He treated the girls as if they were property."

The pair estimated that 120 women worked there. Some were Americans who operated as independent contractors and paid $80 a night in "house fees;" others were Russians who worked to pay off debts to their handlers.

The two dancers said the house fees were waived if the girls agreed to go to a private room with Posner, who allegedly laundered his ill-gotten profits through a nonprofit voter registration organization.

The News describes the private rooms as "half-dozen curtained cubicles, each with a narrow bed, desk and a box of tissues." A source for the Post said, "Lou is a scumbag. I hope he burns in hell."

A lawyer for the Posners, who rent a $10,000/month apartment in East Midtown, claims his clients didn't know there was prostitution occurring in the club and says their bail will probably be posted tomorrow.

I was a dancer at the Hot Lap Dance Club on the night of the police raid and it was a horrible experience. I was just standing by the front door and all of a sudden dozens of Vice cops came storming in with full riot gear and shields, waiving loaded semi-automatic hand guns. I was scared to death and though I might get killed in the cross-fire from an accidental shoot-out. This police response was absolutely uncalled for and is another example of how this City has turned into a police state.

Also, there certainly was no house dealer at the HLD Club. Security at the club was very strict about drugs and even had spot locker room searches for drugs. Any dancer who was caught with drugs was immediately fired.

Karen? Weren't you the peurto rican slut that used to blow guys without a condom in the back of HLD.

I was offered cocaine at this club on numerous occasions,

and it always turned out to be garbage.

Thank god this den of filth is finally gone!

All of the customers and dancers from the Hot Lap Dance Club know that there was a lot of BS in the papers. There were no Russian girls who were paying off their debts to their handlers. This is total BS. The dancers at HLD were mostly "girl next door types." There were only a few Russian dancers and they were just regular college students from Brooklyn.

I went to this club many times and personally knew a lot of the dancers, and I NEVER HEARD A BAD WORD ABOUT THE OWNER of the Club. I recently ran into a former HLD dancer who quit working as a dancer from Flashdancers, because management "treated her like sh__", and she told me that she wished that the Hot Lap Dance Club would reopen.

I was a stripper for three years and my experienced totally changed my perception of the industry. "Respect for lap dancers" is laughable indeed. If a woman does not wanted to be treated disrespectfully or as property then she needs to find a job which deserves respect. A strip club owner is a glorified pimp. My club was also a front for drug trafficking and prostitution and the activity was flagrant and had been going on for decades. There were even two murders that took place in front of the club, one of which involved the gunning down of a drug dealer/pimp who did business in the club. In spite of the evidence the club was not implicated. So when I hear about the occasional bust like this one I have to wonder what the real story is, i.e. the owner failing to pay off a certain mobster or city official. I sincerely doubt it had anything to do with failure to observe the law since it is clear that none of these places do.

The desk is obviously for the Gideon Bible.

They say he's the "king of nuisance lawsuits". Case in point; he sued his then-4-year-old son's elementary school for $16 million, for "letting him run out of class". Oh, yeah and there's VoterMarch.com.

Whether we legalize it or not, they should still put the spot light on this litigious, jerky, slovenly, misogynistic fraud.

One of the co-workers' asks for a show of support for the arrestees at Baxter & Centre streets. 9:00am, Monday, July 21st.

    ...

we are night-owls - nobody wants to wake up that early. AND ESPECIALLY: None of these workers want to wake-up that early in the morning to get dragged into court ...

So let me get this straight, I should show up at 9am because you don't want to wake up to get to court by 10?

One of the co-workers' asks for a show of support for the arrestees at Baxter & Centre streets. 9:00am, Monday, July 21st.

Thursday night. 12 - 15 vice cops swamped the midtown loft: throwing open bathroom doors, telling guys and gals to go to seperate rooms, did background checks, took photos of the loft, took photos of workers, questioned everyone, cuffed all staff, cuffed several dancers. Everyone was held for 2 to 3 hours.

All who went into work Thursday night are facing harsh charges. Approximately 21 people were taken under police custody that night. Many spent the night in jail.

Many others received orders to be in court MONDAY, JULY 21 at 10 am. No customers are being asked to report to court and no customers are facing any charges.

PLEASE come to NYC court house at 9 am to set up a demo to show support to those people, my co-workers, that are facing harsh charges and a slew of lies being thrown in their face - - such is the case in these situations, as far too many of us know.

Trust me, these are my co-workers - we are night-owls - nobody wants to wake up that early. AND ESPECIALLY: None of these workers want to wake-up that early in the morning to get dragged into court and face their fate given to them by the state.

PLEASE COME OUT and show support for these people. It is so important to know you are not alone. Going into court is so incredibly scary - especially for the list of charges they may be charged with.

"He had no respect for us."

Who's dancing at this club, Rodney Dangerfield?

"The other I night I was stripping at the club. I took my top off, a guy in the audience gave me a $20 to it back on. Boy, I tell, I got no respect, no respect at all."

  • slhpatterson

this place was a byob strip club. i'd say the man was a national hero.

Today's top story, strip club owner "had no respect" for lap dancers. In other news, water is confirmed to be wet, the sun rises in the East, and the bear does indeed shit in the woods. More news at 11, when we investigate the alleged Catholicism of the Pope.

You really don't know what they would use the desk for????

  • GOP

They were working to get through college. Thus the desk.

I was wondering more about the tissues

a desk and a box of tissues a Psychiatrist do make.

  • Peter

The News describes the private rooms as "half-dozen curtained cubicles, each with a narrow bed, desk and a box of tissues."

What in the name of God would they need a desk for?
