Williamsburg Shooting Victim Dies

The 22-year-old man who was shot in Brooklyn last weekend, an incident that left a gruesome mess at the bus depot on Broadway and Roebling, has died. The Brooklyn Paper reports that the altercation leading to the shooting began at Williamsburg's Festa del Giglio, and witnesses say the scuffle resulted in Williamsburg resident Richard Duran getting shot in the face. "The gunmen — who onlookers suspect were gang members — sprinted off," however, the shooter and one other man returned and "picked up an orange traffic cone and threw it at the head of the kid who was shot." This all happened on the same night, and around the same time, as the stabbings in the area last weekend; the police didn't catch the assailants.

What if his family saw these pictures and read these posts? What a horrible thing to have to deal with. Nobody respects anybody anymore and people complain about crime and how "they feel unsafe".

I'm not saying it's now violent because "transplants" moved in. I'm saying that's the only reason it gets any press. "Man shot in Brooklyn" never used to be much news. It was something unfortunate but it was also something that was bound to happen. Like the belmar mayor said, it was right up there with "dog bites man".

so you're saying that the south side is just now becoming violent because 'transplants' moved in and before that- it was peaceful? you obviously do not know what you are talking about and are an idiot or you are 10 years old.

  • smacky

what a bunch of cold sensless pricks all of you are. Isn't it nice to post such shit from the comfort of a seat in front of the computer. oh wait...

  • coxx

haha nobody ever said NYC was safe. I dunno why people think it should be

That kid was no hipster....not that it makes a difference. What scumbags.

  • coxx

nobody needs to "off" the hipster/transplants. They'll all be gone in another few 2-5 years when their big dreams of living in cool brookyln & being a model/actor/musician are over with & reality takes over their lives.

  • Spirit of 76

That didn't take too long, I guess. I knew there was going to be some kind of "alright, one less hipster/transplant" post sooner or later. It only took two hours and four posts. And they say New Yorkers aren't friendly.

  • coxx

why would the cops start to care what happens there? Before all these transplants moved in there & decided they were gonna change the world it was crappy but relatively peaceful. Now it's crappy & violent. These gangs are gonna get theirs by the Italians for messin with the feast though I can tell you that much.

  • Gothamist_Cynic

So when are the cops going to crack down on these gangs in williamsburg?

  • matty

Please stick with stories about Staten Island being the new Williamsburg. Thanks.
