Today is going to be downright unpleasant and tomorrow even worse. A big high pressure system off the Mid-Atlantic coast is pulling hot and humid air into the region. Look for highs this afternoon in the mid 90s in the city and lower 90s in the suburbs. The heat and humidity have set off a heat advisory as well as an air quality alert. In response to the heat the city has opened cooling centers and the Salvation Army is opening their community centers to help people keep cool.
The humidity will slowly increase through tomorrow night. This means an uncomfortable night tonight as temperatures will only fall to the upper 70s in the city. Tomorrow will probably not be as warm as today but with the added humidity the heat index will be higher. Triathletes and Siren Music Fest goers beware! Drink plenty of water, wear light-colored, loose-fitting clothing and try to avoid the sun if possible are chief among may ways to beat the heat.
A cold front approaching Saturday may kick off a few showers late in the afternoon tomorrow. Cooler weather is expected on Sunday after the front's passage. Expect a high only in the upper 80s. Thunderstorms are likely Sunday night.

oh, it's on alright. mother nature better watch her back!
Heat wave? This has been the coolest summer in recent memory. Heat wave used to be like 100 degrees. This "heat wave" is how it should be every day in the summer. It's too cold at the pool and beach damn it. >:-(
I was feeling too that this had been quite a cool/pleasant summer (after the initial June heatwave, that is). But when I walked out of my apartment this morning, I said PHEW, now that is hot!
This hasn't been that hot of a summer, but it has been very humid almost every day.
It's an Oppressively Humid Wave?
Talk talk talk. That's all you people do about the weather. Why don't you write to Senator Hillary Clinton and do something about this weather? She's not campaigning anymore so surely she has time to address this serious problem.
even that pic looks uncomfortable.
See it is July 18 and it is in the mid 90s outside. Gore is right we are all doomed!
ONE EGG OR TWO?
Whatever today brings
It's not a let-it-slide day
So go and cover up--
It's frankly freaky Fried Day.
