Couple Found Shot Dead in Brooklyn Home

2008_07_marpark.jpgA Marine Park husband and wife, who worked as divorce attorneys, were found dead, shot multiple times at close range in their bedroom. Their housekeeper found Mark Schwartz, 50, and Maria-Christina Petrowski-Schwartz, 48, yesterday afternoon on East 33rd Street.

The Post reports that the police are investigating it as a double homicide, but "detectives had not entirely ruled out the possibility that it was a murder-suicide" (the murder weapon was not found). The Daily News says investigators are looking at business associates, plus the couple may have been "about to fire someone in their office."

There were no signs of a break-in, and neighbors didn't hear any loud noises, except for some some banging around 5 a.m. Also, neighbors expressed surprise that the couple's German shepherd didn't bark, with one telling the News, "It must have been someone the dog knew. Every time you pass there, he jumps up at the door."

A police source said, "Whoever did this knew them, came right in, did it and fled. Marine Park doesn't have to worry about double-locking their doors. This was no push-in robbery."

The german shepherd didn't bark- definitely someone they knew.

when you say, 'some banging around 5am' do you mean what i think you mean?

That would be pretty f'd up to be invited over to a guys house to watch him shoot himself and his wife then collect the gun and leave.

I know the person that lives next door. She already spoke to the police. The shots were fired at about 5:20 a.m. The dog never barked.

Ah juicy details are flowing in to my Inbox.

Who can guess whodunnit??

I know the person that lives next door to that person who lives next door. She also already spoke to the police. Shots were fired at 5:21 a.m. The dog almost barked but decided against it.

Sheesh.

My money is on one of the stepkids.

And my question for all these neighbors: if they heard shots at 5:20 in the morning, why didn't they call the police? These people weren't found until the poor housekeeper got there several hours later.

My 'source' believed the sound to be heard was firecrackers, but of course they were the gunshots. And the dog didn't bark. The source is an earwitness, looked into the house, saw nothing, and the dog wasn't barking.

"Marine Park doesn't have to worry about double-locking their doors."

Apparently they do.

What the hell, does everyone here know the couple's next door neighbors?

Chung-chung!

disgruntled client, divorces can get ugly.

As someone who grew up in Marine Park, I can understand why they'd think it was firecrackers. The place, for better or worse, is pretty much Mayberry. You get some vandalism, non-violent theft, destruction of property, drunken fights, drunk driving, a few muggings, and the occasional fire, but nothing this major. A lot of cops and firemen and other city workers used to (and in many cases still do) live there, so crime was never high or major (at least in my experience). Considering that people are still talking about a fire that gutted a house and killed one of my schoolmates in 1994, this is going to be talked about for the next 20 years at Flood's Tavern.

The entire 63rd Precinct must be collectively shitting themselves.

The woman next door was up at 5:20 am just in case "banging noises" might come from that house; the stepkids were ominously silent as a gun entered and then exited their divorce attorney step-parents' home; the housekeeper showed up for work on time only to have her punctuality unacknowleged; the dog refused to comment.

#babyhitler:

ok, babyhitler, gotta give it to you. that was good one.

In poor taste babyhitler.

this reminds me of that time that dead couple was found dead in their home in queens.

where'd babyhitler's post go? he's been on a pretty good roll lately...

I know the housekeeper's manicurist. She says the housekeeper called her at 5:22am and said ran out of Endust so she shot a couple of peeps.

From my apartment in the Bronx I did not hear the dog bark nor the gunshots.

to, theevilone

i know the step kids and they are not the ones who did it. i know you dont know any of them, but you just made so damn mad by saying that.......

Whoever knows the step kids, may not really KNOW them at all. Neighbors also reported a DO NOT COME HOME sign posted in their window. Obviously the pregnant daughter doesn't live there, she has a hubby and two kids, so that leaves one person. Yes the son and from everything I heard from the neighbors he is a prime candidate for the shooter. They wouldn't give a key to a business associate, his fingerprints would naturally be in the house, the dog did not bark,( yes the dog was tested for sedatives and drugs, negative to either)he has been in trouble with the law etc...Not saying it is him but, neither did the people in Sugar Land Texas think the son in the house had anything to do with his mother and brothers murder. The poor father just happened to live. He sits on death row.
