Activists pushing for the impeachment of President Bush were dealt a blow this week in their quest to unseat West side Democratic congressman Jerry Nadler. His opponent Adam Sullivan – whose nascent campaign arose out of outrage at Nadler’s refusal to hold hearings to investigate impeaching Bush – has run into a little snag. In the rush to launch his campaign, Sullivan, who previously had no political affiliation, didn't understand that it was too late to register as a Democrat and run in November! Sharon Lynch from the Sullivan camp tells us he’s having a meeting tonight to decide the future of the campaign: “We're grassroots activists with full time jobs outside politics; in the rush to field a challenger we missed this.”

And then tell me you think the Congressman shouldn't receive a primary challenge that will wake him up. In case you don't have the time to watch the minute long video, here's the transcript:
"I think as a matter of justice that if we had a just system and it weren't overly political, the President probably would be impeached. I think he has committed impeachable offenses.
But first of all, it's not up to me as to whether we should impeach the President, it's up to the House as a whole and up to the leadership of the House to allow such a proceeding to be brought.
As a practical matter at this point in the game with 6 months left in the Administration, it would never happen, and it's probably not the best idea to start a full impeachment hearing at this point which would simply take all the attention away from and distort the presidential campaign.
In my view, if we're going to restore the United States as a nation of laws, if we're going to see some of these hideous and illegal practices... stop, the most important thing right now is to elect Barack Obama as President so we can get a decent honest man in office again and an Administration that begins to obey the law.
And then I would hope to see prosecutions - criminal prosecutions - of some people in the Bush Administration who have clearly committed war crimes because I think it's very important that people be held accountable so these crimes do not set precedents for the..."
This is the man who is the Chairman of the House Judiciary Subcommittee on the Constitution, Civil Rights and Civil Liberties. Appalling and sad that he has become nothing more than another beltway politician. New York's 8th CD and the country as a whole deserve better.
Adam Sullivan came out of his comfort zone to try to make a difference and remind Jery Nadler that he is accountable to his consitutents. Unfortunately, it looks like an error was made that will affect his campaign.
This is just one setback. Do not worry Congress cannot continue on its current course!
Wish I had your confidence. This is why campaigns like Sullivans are important. It is up to us to hold Congress accountable.
