Anyone who bitches about that power outage should really read the PDF report on the play by play of what happened and what they had to do to get it working.
They're required by company policy (and I think by law) to literally time stamp and show everything they did during the whole incident.
Getting a main of that magnitude to come back up while every dickhead in the area still has every piece of electrical equipment in their living space running is a task to say the least... Oh yeah, and all the cable for it is buried under miles of NYC infrastructure that cannot be taken off line in the process to troubleshoot it.
I think ConEd does a respectable job, all things considered.
