THEATER: Ever since consenting to a Gothamist interview back in 2004, the career of outré musician/performance artist Neal Medlyn has really taken off. Just sayin’. His latest opus, Neal Medlyn’s Unpronounceable Symbol, pays musical homage to Prince, with a live band led by Kiki & Herb’s Kenny Mellman, who co-wrote the show and rearranged a bunch of Prince B-sides for the score. In it, Medlyn plays three roles; a rocker named Jerry with a “lethal cum shot,” Neal, a meek cabbie and the object of Jerry's lust, and, for good measure, Jehovah. But as arresting as Medlyn is, his costar Carmine Covelli, who plays his bandmate Bob George, just about steals Neal and the show. (Here's the full review.) – John Del Signore
