Like many of us the atmosphere slows down in the summer. A good example of that slowness is the approaching cold front that is kicking off this morning's rain. It has taken nearly a day to travel from Central New York to the northwestern suburbs of the city. The front will take another couple of hours to move through the city so the showers may stick around until early afternoon. Temperatures will be on the low side this morning but should rebound to a near normal high of 83 this afternoon.
If you like sunny and warm this looks to be your week. Tomorrow should be sunny with a slightly above normal high of 87. Perfect for the All-Star Game at Yankee Stadium. A mini heat wave is expected to start on Wednesday, when the high will be in the upper 80s. Low 90s, and continued sunny skies, are currently in the plans for Thursday through Saturday.
Although Bertha was downgraded to a tropical storm after wandering into colder Atlantic waters over the weekend, the swells from the storm continue to produce dangerous rip tides. Two men died and one is missing after being caught in the rip currents along the Jersey shore. The National Weather Service predicts a high risk of rip currents today from Sandy Hook to Cape May.
