You know, it's not like a Starbucks has never closed in NYC before. There used to be one on 9th Avenue at around 30th Street - I would walk by it on my way to school, and then one day it was gone. No explanation, no parting words of sorrow, just gone. And the space it occupied is still vacant as far as I know, with the mottled red, yellow & orange lamps still hanging in the window.

By Southold, I assume they mean the one in Greenport, which I never see anyone in anyway, and there is no one around Mon-Thursday.

Can we craft their "parting notices"? Can we? Can we? Here's mine:

  To our valued customers,

It has been a wonderful 2 1/2 years serving you the finest globally sourced, corporate grind coffee that one can brew by pushing a button. But even we at starbucks understand that in these difficult and challenging times, $5 for a cup of our amazing coffee can sometimes be a heavy burden. So we humbly ask that you visit one of our shops 50 feet over to maintain that privilege and we thank you for all your support as we continue to plod obliviously forward.

       Thanks! And so long!

I stopped drinking coffee. Argo tea all the way.

And I'm sure nyc will be happy to know that no Starbucks are closing in Chicago proper either.

Clearly, caffeine is no match for the other, more treacherous, mind-altering substances being offered for sale in Central Islip...

I prefer Mudd Coffee...but, the convenience of 'Bucks is nice, plus they sell Izze. Glad to hear NYC isn't loosing any. As grooverider stated, SI isn't NYC. Seriously.
