Last Night's Action: Seven and Counting

2006_04_smetslogo.jpg

  • Mets 2, Rockies 1: Wins against National League West teams still count in the standings. Remember, the Mets couldn't compete with the Seattle Mariners a few weeks ago. Now they are owners of their first seven-game win streak since 2006. Oliver Perez wasn't as sharp as he has been in recent starts, but he did produce six innings of one-run ball. He was fortunate to allow so few, as he walked six. Damion Easley hit a solo homer in the eighth inning tto break a 1-1 tie. At some point, the Mets' carriage pulled by unlikely heroes like Fernando Tatis and Easley is going to turn back into a pumpkin. Anyone who thinks those players will keep producing is kidding himself.

  • Blue Jays 5, Yankees 0: Who owns the Yankees? George Steinbrenner or Roy Halladay? The Blue Jays right-hander threw a two-hit shutout and didn't give the Yankees a chance. Once Joba Chamberlain allowed two runs in the third inning, the game was effectively over. Chamberlain didn't have that bad a start himself, striking out nine and walking none, which is important. He just went up against the wrong guy.

Didn't the Mets play Colorado on Friday. I was there. I could swear it was Colorado. Maybe its me.

The wins against the shitty third place Yankees counted, too.

[1], don't point out minor mistakes like that. It's more important that he worked in the pun on "owns."

A little wishful thinking perhaps?

I really want to cut that mole off of Beltran's head.

Seriously Tom, how 'bout some objective reporting? If you try a little, I think you'll find it's not that hard to keep your Yankee-rooting and Met-hating out of these toss-off paragraphs.

"No cheering in the press box!"
