College-Bound Teen Shot in Rockaways

2008_07_qnsshoot.jpgAn 18-year-old graduate of Far Rockaway High was fatally shot on Beach 16th Street yesterday morning. The Daily News reports Patrick Hernandez, who had played on the high school football team and was headed to SUNY Cortland this fall, "had spent the morning helping clean up a local beach and was walking home with his brother" when a shooter jumped out of a car and fired at him. The police are speaking to a suspect. His father mourned, "He was leaving these streets. We were trying to get him out of The Rock."

This is so sad! Here is a perfect example of a good kid who dies for no reason at all other than spite. I really hope they get the animal who did this and hope he gets the max sentence.

I usually just flip past these stories but this one almost made me cry on the train today. At 10:30 in the morning while walking home after helping to clean up a local beach the college-bound prom king football star was shot dead in front of his brother, who held his hand while he died. And what was on the front page of the paper? Christie fucking Brinkley.

Seems like this wasn't some random drive-by, so I'm wondering what beef he had with the shooter.

When you here this it makes you mad I do agree this kid seemed to be doing the right thing. The shooting does not seem random but that does not mean this kid did any thing wrong either.

The papers said that the shooter was a classmate that had some sort of long-standing grudge/rivalry with this kid. Damn shame.
