Car Swerves into Starbucks Near Lincoln Center
Last month, there were a string of accidents that left over twenty people injured and one person dead after vehicles jumped the curb and hit pedestrians, seemingly making sidewalk the most dangerous place for pedestrians. Yesterday, an accident at Broadway and West 63rd Street, a taxi cab and car crashed into each other, sending one vehicle spinning into a Starbucks and hitting a pedestrian.
As far as we could gather from some witnesses, the cab crashed into the Mercedes, which then swerved onto the sidewalk and into the Starbucks. The Mercedes apparently also hit a person on the sidewalk, bringing that person into the store . The Mercedes' occupants were all okay, while the cab's passengers were removed to an ambulance. The pedestrian was bloodied by the broken glass and also taken to a hospital, while firefighters were working into the night to remove the cab driver from the car.

It was pretty disturbing--I had just passed this corner maybe 40 minutes earlier (there was also a line of people waiting to get into some sort of event). They shut down southbound Broadway for a few blocks, too, which caused vehicles to go through red lights, etc.

Bloomberg is behind this. Congestion pricing failed? He stages car accidents to hype the car-free boulevards program on the weekends.

I was standing on 64th & Columbus (in front of Lincoln Center) with my dad when this happened. We heard a loud screech followed by a crash and screams. We stayed away for a few minutes, but by about 8:20 our curiosity got the better of us and we walked by the scene. It looked really terrible--you could see blood mixed with shards of glass in the doorway of the Starbucks.

The glass wall probably saved the pedestrian's life. Had it been a brick wall, the result may be tragic.

Why? There was no way he would have been pinned in the vehicle, there wasn't enough damage for that.
At least the side curtain airbags on the Mercedes worked well.

It's perfectly acceptable for an automobile to run down and kill or maim pedestrians, just as long as the driver uses one or more of the following excuses:
- I didn't see anything/anyone
- I suffered some kind of "seizure"
- The accelerator got stuck
- The brakes didn't work

The cab caused this accident so it's not the Mercedes driver fault being on the sidewalk.
All cabs think NYC is some sort of race track.

hey, if were going to gripe about cabbies, mine is about honking the horn. Is so much honking really necessary? Traffice does not move any faster if you honk. How about connecting the horn to a electric shocker on the drivers seat?

This is what you get when you take these guys who are right out of Karachi and you put them behind the wheel of the largest car they've ever seen in their lives and then you have them drive all day long on the most busy streets in America. How about all cabs have to be made of Spongebob dolls, so when they hit something it doesn't hurt anybody.

i was there. me and my cousin were the only two people on the corner besides the man that was hit.the car spun in our direction and i was frozen in my tracks. the man was walking past the starbucks and was struck so hard that he was forced through the window. but thank god he got up. it was scary, i prayed for that man all night.before the big crowd, i walked to the scene and saw him walk to a stool in the starbucks and sit.i saw him get up and take a seat after he was hit, his face was bloody. i was about to walk to the garbage can on that corner when it all happened. it was surreal. by the way, the cab driver REFUSED to get out of the cab. he caused the damn accident. he refused to get out of the cab.

We need bollards running up and down the sidewalks of NYC. Then drivers can smash themselves up at their leisure.

my cousin was there and saw it sharply that the merci. driver crossed the red light while the cab driver was on his way he was on the right track so i don't think u guys should blame this all to the texi driver just cuz he is a texi driver and nothing againts anyone but jenchungsbra i don't think that even hs is from karachi you should say that cuz listen u wouldn't like it either if u were in his position so plz the next time u wanna say something say it after u think and if u have anything againts pakistani's keep it to ur self that would be better not that i am but still u would not like me to say anything agaist u as well so don't about others
