Laxative Cake Charges Lowered
Everyone's favorite laxative cake bakers, three Brooklyn School for Global Studies students, got some good news yesterday: Though initially charged with felonies for giving their teachers and other staffers a cake spiked with Dulcolax (it was supposed to be a prank, but many went to the hospital in pain), the Brooklyn DA's office lowered the charges to misdemeanors, saying, "The injuries were minimal." The Daily News reported one student cried after being chased by photographers, prompting of the her victims to say, "Good. From what I'm hearing elsewhere it's all been a big joke to them so far." The students still face possible jail time.

These kids should be held back a grade. That would teach them not to mess with people. No college this fall.

I agree with the notion of no college this fall or spring. They should be doing community service every day until next August when they can start college.

Stupid idea #1. The kid's mistake, as dumb as it was, does not warrant them to repeat their previous grade. That is not what schools are for. Charge them for the crime, let them do their time, and move on.

No, but their colleges should definitely be informed.

Whatever. Who hasn't eated too much Sichuan Hot Pot and exploded the next day? And anyway, it's not like it was LSD cookies served to cops. Those kids rule.

Then what are schools for? Or are you one of those who believe school is all about nothing but academics? Schools are also for teaching kids how to be productive, well-adjusted members of society. Obviously, these kids failed to learn that lesson. Failing students get held back. Besides, it would be poetic justice. These kids thought they were free and those teachers could never make their lives miserable again. Give the teachers another year with them. Now that would be sweet revenge.

Schools are for a lot of things, including life lessons and academics, but they are not for punishing individuals that have been criminally charged. I believe our country has a criminal justice system already set up for that. The kids made a mistake (they are not failures) and they should pay through the judicial system. That is why it exists.
Give the teachers another year with them? As a teacher, that sounds like a punishment for both parties. Tell their colleges and move 'em on.
