Only a few hours remain until the final spots on baseball's 2008 All-Star Game will be decided. Major League Baseball announced this morning that Corey Hart of the Milwaukee Brewers is leading the National League voting and Evan Longoria of the Tampa Bay Rays is leading the American League voting. Trailing closely behind Hart is David Wright of the Mets, while Jason Giambi is trailing Longoria and Jermaine Dye of the Chicago White Sox.

In an unquestioning support of our home teams, Gothamist voted for Wright and Giambi several times today. In a show of support for Giambi, the Yankees even supplied faux mustaches to fans at yesterday's game to "Support the 'Stache." How can you not want a porn stache in the All-Star game, even if its owner wears leopard print thongs. One added benefit of Giambi making the All-Star team would be his inclusion in the home run derby.

If they make the teams, Wright would join Billy Wagner on the NL team and Giambi would join Derek Jeter, Alex Rodriguez and Mariano Rivera on the AL team. You can participate in the Final Vote until 5 p.m. today.

The Yankees' effort to get Giambi (or 'stache, as he's now known) voted onto the All-Star squad is shameless, including multiple emails to fans reminding them that they can vote 'up to 30 times."
The guy is not all-star material. Period.

30 times? i'm sort of ashamed to admit it, but i've voted for Corey Hart way more than that over the last couple days. i thought i would eventually be cut off, but it hasn't happened yet.

did i mention that i wear my sunglasses at night?

Hasn't he been indicted for juicing?

But Matty, what's the mid-summer classic without juicing?

go giambino!

ps - voting is an excellent way to avoid actual work - although, we are all reading gothamist right now...

Clearly no-one minds you taking performance enhancing drugs if you grow a funny moustache.

Can people just vote for who they think are the best players (not Corey Hart, Jason Giambi or Jermaine Dye)

gotta stick with the home team on this one - purity in baseball went out in 1919 anyway.

yes, people can & do vote for the best players for the starting positions.
This vote is a recent gimmick, where fans can vote for the last all-star, from a list of 5 players picked by the all-star manager.
