Chappelle Goes AWOL Once Again
Last night in Chelsea, Dave Chappelle no-showed at a fundraiser he was slated to headline for the congressional campaign of Kevin "Real World" Powell. After waiting around for over three hours, the crowd of a few hundred was told that Chappelle had missed not one, but two planes out of Ohio. To add insult to injury, Powell mentioned more than once that Chris Rock was in the building, but did not want to take the stage due to "not wanting to disrespect another comedian." How this was supposed to appease the crowd who had paid $75 (minimum) a ticket for the rare Chappelle appearance was unclear. Hot 97's Angie Martinez also had some questionable logic for crowd control. While emceeing as the audience began jeering the phantom comedian, she responded, "Don't boo me. Boo yourselves."
After announcing that the show would not go on, Powell had the crowd sign information cards on the way out to ensure that they would receive free admission to the "next celebrity event." The event is likely to be Kevin's biggest public embarrassment since the episode of the first season of The Real World where he was duped into believing that Julie the virgin from Alabama had taken up prostitution, while Eric "The Grind" Nies had become a practicing homosexual.

#2, all that prime material and that's the best you can come up with? Shame on you; Jesse Helms is rolling over in his grave.

What happened? Why d'ya censor SC's post?

i didn't see the offending post & i'm ok with the censoring. i just wish they didn't remove the entire entry because it throws the numbering off. just replace the text with "removed due to content."

and andre was a hillbilly! truly a great episode, though i still can't believe kevin was dumb enough to fall for it. makes me question his abilities in the political arena.

if i were a publicist, i would never book dave chappelle for a dinner reservation, let alone a headline act for a political fundraiser!

I'm not kidding at all when I say David Chappelle is my motherfucking hero.

Hmm, I've never heard of Kevin Powell. Perhaps that's because I don't watch stupid shit shows like the Real World. Is someone from that idiotic series actually running for political office? It boggles the mind that a "reality" show contestant would have any supporters in such an endeavor.

Was at the show--yeah it kinda sucked that Chappelle was a no-show but Kevin gave a really compelling, intelligent speech. I'm still with him.
