No Manhattan-Bound 7 Express Service

2008_07_7train.jpgThere are signal problems at Times Square, so there are no Times Squard-bound 7 express trains, as of 8:30 a.m. The MTA recommends the E, F, R, and V at Jackson Heights-Roosevelt Avenue as an alternate, as well as the N and W at Queensboro Plaza. Check the MTA's service alerts website for the latest details.

This happens a lot during rush hour. It's gotten better now, but for a while you could expect it once a week. It's the worst in Sunnyside, where I live, because the train is the most crowded there. People start getting off at 33rd, Queensboro Plaza, and Court House Square...but before that it's like sardines in a crushed tin box.

I got on a 7:30ish 7-train from 45th Rd towards Grand Central. The train stopped for quite a while before getting into Hunterspoint Avenue station. The motorman announced that the train ahead of us was being returned to Main St. And afterwards he said that it's our lucky day for every other train was being asked to go back to Main St., while we can continue towards Times Square.

Signalling problems? There have been signs saying that there won't be any Express service today through Friday. The signs were posted a few days ago. Maybe there was no service at all because of a signalling problem, but the express service was stopped because of planned trackwork or some such.
