Kestrels Fly Back into Nature

Yojimbot at The Origin of Species has some beautiful photographs taken during the release of some kestrels back into the wild. These kestrels (which are in the falcon family) were being rehabilitated by Bobby Horvath, who gathered other bird enthusiasts in Van Cortlandt Park for the big day. Here are some photographs from Yojimbot, who also has video.

How gorgeous! And only a few blocks from my apartment.

Thanks for the shout out Gothamist! The third photo at the bottom was taken by Francois Portmann.

Keep looking up!

Glad they're out & about. Kestrels have been all around the city for quite a while. If ya don't have headphones in your ears 24/7, you can hear them all over with their high-pitched "eek" zipping above the buildings. Along with Peregrines & Redtails, if you listen/look, they're a really nice part of day-today NYC.

And, um, BH, I normally laugh along with you, but you finally got me freaked! Stop staring @ palemale.com & fingering your cloaca!
Once you go raptor, you never go back?

Thanks for the feedback all. Babyhitler, the bird you refer to is a female and she's underage (making you all the more sick). Seek help now before you become the worst tyrannical dicator since...well, never mind.
