The marketing team for that new Batman movie – we think it's called The Dark Knight? – are having a hell of a time getting word out about their scrappy little art house film. So last night, in an act of sad desperation, they fired up the Bat Signal and shined it onto the Woolworth building to try and spark some degree of excitement. Unfortunately for them, The Dark Knight opens the same weekend as the hotly anticipated Space Chimps, so, you know, good luck, Nolan! Brooklyn Heights blog caught a glimpse of the signal from Brooklyn; and today the Times reports that optimistic theater owners will be screening the movie all night long when it opens.

What, no Bat Signal in the sky?!
The Bacardi bat is cuter.
OMFG that is OSSUM!
(i bought my imax tickets on the 25th...of june!)
Probably wouldn't look as clean in the sky against the clouds, if visible at all.
I'm looking forward to Ledger's psychotic Joker. The buzz is huge on his performance, from fanboys and critics alike.
ledger will beat nicholson.
No one can top the Keaton/Nicholson combo. Ledger and Bale are weak.
And bring back Katie Holms!
I think Bale makes an AMAZING Batman. And not just because he's cute...
#8 is full of sh*t, Bale plays Batman as good as Burt Ward.
Holy Mackerel Batman! A giant bat plastered into the building.
Bale is the Bats. I'll take Maggie over Katie any day. And Ledger surpasses Nicholson as the Joker, if for any reason that he won't get stuck in that persona in almost every role he plays for the rest of his career. I love Nicholson, but he's become a broken record over the last 15 years.
Be sure to watch for the trophy Chicago buildings when you see it. Then come for a visit!
Okay, I admit Bale is a decent Batman, and I am sure Ledger will be an awesome Joker. But there's no way I can stand watching Maggie G's fugly face instead of Katie's, acting skills aside.
That Tim Burton flick has not held up well over the years, the Prince song not the least of it.
Ed: 'Purple Rain'?
Shaun: No.
Ed: 'Sign o' the Times'?
Shaun: Definitely not.
Ed: The 'Batman' soundtrack?
Shaun: Throw it.
"But there's no way I can stand watching Maggie G's fugly face instead of Katie's, acting skills aside."
that's the only thing i agree with you on.
This movie is gonna tank like never before. It's gonna be worse than howard the duck. The tracking for this movie is some of the worst reviews ever. Test audiences were leaving within ten minutes of the opening. Sadness all around.
You're full of it. If reviews are so universally bad, why are the early ones on Rottentomatoes all fresh?
I don't like this flat-top bat symbol. Bring back the classic oval.
What movie isn't worse than Howard the Duck though, really?
OMG Dude, Dark Knight is so totally going to ROCK! I cannot hardly wait!

Ok wait im sorry do you actually think that space chimp will do better than Batman: Dark knight well thats where you would be wrong. batman will destroy in the boxoffice space chimps will be slauhtered so it is them you should wish the luck to.
Bale is the best Batman since Keaton. The rest were terrible, and got worse with each movie after #1.
Bale has a gift for playing dark characters. I recommend that if you haven't seen American Psycho staring Bale, that you get off your asses and rent the DVD. That movie is the singular reason he was chosen to play Batman in the first place.
that's amazing. i almost wish i wasn't in california for that. i've been waiting for this since the first preview before Bourne Ultimatum.
and i thought it was a universal understanding that katie holmes sucks. apparently there are differing opinions. how odd.
Is this Gothamist's attempt at gossip blogging, ie Gawker? While the event is newsworthy and I have nothing against it being posted, is the sarcasm necessary? I thought this was supposed to be a newsite. Or maybe I'm wrong and the alternative is that all of the comments about Space Chimps and Batman being a tiny art house film you believe to be true. Either way I think the tone is a little off for Gothamist.
This is a blog written by regular people, not Pulitzer prize winning journalists. A little sarcasm doesn't hurt, especially when written about stories that aren't quite that important such as this Batman stunt. Its nice to break off from the monotony of boring stale news posts.
If your in need of the highest standards of professional journalism, go to CNN or BBC.
superhero's sign ... but the best super hero ever here: http://runningthebeauty.com.ua/?p=105
Kim Basinger was worthless and I am glad was not mentioned against the likes of such greats as Katie Holmes and Maggie Gyllenhaal...
If the Joker kisses Rachel Dawes, then that will mean that Ledger has tongued both Gyllenhaals. That's a hell of a feat.
