The cable car system at the Bronx Zoo, better known as the Skyfari, gave passengers an unexpected adventure earlier this evening. Just before closing time, around 5:30 p.m., the system broke down leaving zoo patrons hanging above the wildlife below, but at least the bird's-eye-view was nice as they waited for firefighters to rescue them.
WABC reports that around 40 people, children and adults, were saved--or are in the process of being saved--from being stranded when "a crane was brought in and the FDNY and NYPD executed a high-angle rescue." Reportedly a mechanical glitch and/or rain was at fault, and Con Ed chimed in with their standard response, saying "they have nothing to do with the outage."

A crane that stayed upright and didn't crash on people? Who would have thought!
More reason for my fear of heights!
Imagine one of those cars filled with people hanging over the Tiger pit. That would've been such a treat.
It must have been boring after awhile and this is the one place in The Bronx where flinging feces is normal.
Just saying...
I LOVE how the gondola has a Delta logo on the side - they don't get you anywhere either!
