  • From the Gothamist Newsmap: A bicyclist struck at 49th Avenue and 108th Street in Queens, an accident investigation at East 106th Street and the FDR in Manhattan, and a motor vehicle accident near the Verrazano Bridge, on the Brooklyn side.
  • In Massachusetts, a Cape Cod man allegedly beat a man because he suspected the victim was a Yankees fan. The victim had NY license plates.
  • A Jersey City DJ rescued a naked 2-year-old from wandering the streets alone. The DJ, Harvey King, said some people were just standing around, not doing anything; the baby is now in custody of family services.
  • Harlem gentrifiers want noisy drum circle at Marcus Garvey to go: Last October, an e-mail message was sent to residents from the address of one of the co-op's residents. "Why don't we just get nooses for everyone of those lowlifes and hang them from a tree? They're used to that kind of treatment anyway!"
  • Lost City shows a Brooklyn Ikea ad parked in front of the future site of Trader's Joe: "Could any other picture express as succinctly what is happening in the County of Kings these days?"
  • A NYPD detective went undercover at a city mosque to get to know Muslims with extremist views; the Daily News reports the cop revealed "after prayers at a neighborhood mosque, there were often private classes that included discussions about bombing different areas."

to answer eric roberts...the drum circle and the residents reached a compromise this spring and there have been no issues since. i guess no one told the times.

to answer jacque-the race still runs every year around marcus garvey. did again this year, father's day i believe.

Plant more trees to absorb the drumming. (or hangings as one resident wrote but his e-mail got hacked)

I didn't know Marcus garvey park was fixed up. There used to be an annual bicycle race that's held there. it was a lot of fun and sponsored by Budweiser. (free beer for VIP)

as long as they're drums and not five gal. buckets I'm OK with it. the plastic sounds too sharp.

Not a picture, how about the video from King's County Hospital? I'd take the Ikea and Trader Joe's publicity any day of the week.

Someone put a dent in my car when I went to Vermont (They're mostly Boston fans up there, and if you are a person of color, they automatically assume you're a yankee fan). And not to help my cause, I had a NY Yankees sticker in the rear window (not because I'm a fan -- put it here for my nephew's regard). They also scrolled "Yankees suck" in mud in the hood of my car. I just don't get it, are Boston fans prejudiced?

Does anyone have more info about the Marcus Garvey drum circle dispute? The article makes it sound like it's only on Saturday but it can go on for 10+ hours? Did the developer not soundproof the new condo building properly? Will the haters only accept a solution where they can never hear the drum circle or would they be willing to put up with it for set hours every Saturday? Would the drummers be willing to compromise or do they refuse set hours?

Personally, I would prefer the drum circle once a week to the countless other noise disturbances in the city.
