Benches for Barack in Brooklyn

0807barackbench.jpgEarlier, Brownstoner pointed towards a Benches for Barack Craigslist ad that offers up handmade benches built from Douglas Fir wood. From the $40 price tag, $25 goes to the cost of building the bench, while $15 is donated to the Obama campaign. Brownstoner's post noted that the twosome behind the benches are "neighborhood kids, 18-year-old high school grads Harry Fishbein and Emma Dillon," and that they work out of Harry's basement in Cobble Hill. The benches, which measure 18 inches tall and 48 inches long, are delivered for free and can even show up at your doorstep in two hours! The bench-builders are also branching out into building wooden trash can containers, garden/picnic tables, and (this one's ambitious) sheds!

These look sweet! So cheap too.

Great. That Doug Fir comes from National Forests in the Northwest. Salvaged wood would be patriotic AND support Obama. First-cut timber is just stupid.

Not an Obama fan, but nice idea by the kids.

good idea. but using non recycled products is not.
they mas well be selling t-shirts made in china.

Those benches look a tad white. They should use some sort of darker wood.

I see what you did there.

No, they should use a light wood and just artificially darken it.

Agreed. Although I'm no Obama supporter I admire the initiative - just not the execution.

A wooden bench is all the furniture anybody will be able to afford when president obama starts consfiscating an even larger chunk of your paycheck. When they say they're going to "tax the rich" that of course means anyone not on welfare.

Not a bad idea, because that is where you can park your behind when you are in between jobs.

Because somehow, businesses will feel the incentive to expand and create new jobs with higher taxes and increased gov't regulation.
