City Will Pay Funeral Expenses for Woman Left to Die in Hospital Waiting Room

2008_07_egreen.jpgAfter being rocked by the death of Esmin Green, a psychiatric patient who died at Kings County Hospital, the city announced it would pay for her funeral expenses. A video showed Green waiting in the waiting room for almost 24 hours, collapsing to the floor with numerous staffers ignoring her. Mayor Bloomberg said developer Forest City Ratner will fly Green's relatives from Jamaica to NYC and back, as well as fly the body back to Jamaica. Though six staffers have been fired, Green's daughter told the Daily News, "I'm going to put it in the hands of American law. But I can tell you this: That hospital, it needs to be closed down."

Well that's certainly nice of them. Although it would have been cheaper to give her the royal treatment when she was still alive.

I'm not so sure about the hospital needing to be closed down though.

What, so why do tax-payer dollars need to be dragged into this? I mean, I feel sorry for her and all, but what place does Bloomberg have ponying up tax dollars for this????

NYCSniper--I think the city will be paying A LOT more in a settlement with the family.

NYCSniper, your taxpayer dollars paid for the indifferent staffers that allowed this woman to die. Direct your outrage towards them.

It would have been cheaper to keep her alive. That settlement is going to be 'nuff $$$.
