Start Crying Over Expensive Milk

2008_06_milk.jpgThe state-controlled price for a gallon of milk went up another 44 cents this morning, bringing the maximum amount that a retailer can charge to $4.37. But an investigation last month revealed that many retailers haven’t even heard of this law and charge whatever they want. The rising prices are due to high fuel costs, corn shortages and floods in the Midwest, according to WABC. And at $4.37 a gallon, inventors’ dreams for a milk-powered car are now cost-prohibitive. Time to switch to rat milk?

this just in: milk is gross anyway.

I agree I am glad I don't like milk but I do like cheese and icecream so get ready to pay more for that pink berry and that slice of pizza

Doesn't affect me. I drink plenty of Malk

i buy one litre of 1% drop a little cornstarch in there after i open it and it lasts for almost a month without going sour... i use milk for tea and coffee, that's it... who's drinking a gallon of that crap a day or every two to three days?

I don't mind expensive milk if the farmers' are getting their piece of the pie...that regulation has really hurt the dairy business in new york state.

you beat me to it kojak! lolz

I don't even have kids but can see the impact this would have on growing families.

duh.

Milk is unfit for human consumption, so this is not a big deal.

do these regulations affect greenmarket retailers too? for example, milk thistle farm charges 4.75 per quart (4 quarts to a gallon), minus a $1 bottle return refund. it's good milk but really expensive! supporting them would be easier if their prices were lower.

So there's a staff of people in Albany being paid to set state "controlled" prices for milk - which is then ignored by the retailers.

Another example of taxpayer money going down the drain.

No. The milk gouging law is targeted at supermarkets.
