Pitbulls Seized After Mauling 90-Year-Old Man on S.I.
Earlier today, a 90-year-old man was mauled by a neighbor's pit bulls. The victim, Henry Pitrowski, remains at Richmond University Medical Center in critical condition.
Reports say Pitrowski was attacked on his property. Another neighbor, Reginald Bell, told the Advance he went outside when he heard the elderly man's screaming. Bell said, "The dogs were actually eating him alive. He was mauled completely. His legs were eaten to the bone. His arms were eaten to the bone." After running home to call 911, Bell brought back a butcher knife to scare the dogs off the victim.
The dogs were tranquilized and removed from the house, and WNBC reports the owner is being questioned. According to WABC 7, "The dogs had ran through the back yards to Piotrowski's property. They escaped back home to their owner's house Newark Avenue, where police quickly arrived."
Recently, a bill preventing ex-cons from owning pit bulls, Rottweilers, and other fighting dogs was introduced to the State Legislature and a year and a half ago, City Councilman Peter Vallone proposed a ban on pit bulls.

>Where is Staen Island?
It's the 6th borough. It's a wonderful place to live, free from spell and grammar checkers. Apparently it has a pit bull problem, though.

A dog is all how you raise it. I have a pitmix and not only is she not a terrorist but she's a sweet loving little mush. My dalmatian on the other hand is a fucking crackhead who'd eat you as soon as look at you.
[ report this ]
so then, did you raise the two differently to test your theory?

but they were such good dogs, we've never seen the dogs act violently, in fact, I trust my 6 month old baby with the pit bull. the dog is a sweetheart, it wouldn't hurt a fly.
I trust my pitbulls with my babies. my pitbulls are scared of people, they're scaredy cats. they wouldn't hurt a fly.

I have a pitmix that would never eat an old man. She's got better taste than that.

Nice one #6. Yes #5, if you're going to try to make a point about Nurture vs. Nature, try not to undercut it in your own statement.

Apparently the dogs were owned by Bingoramirez!

Hahaha - the beginning of every story you'll ever hear from a pitbull owner just prior to their dog eating their baby.
Pitbulls are the scurge of the canine universe and everyone of them should be euthanized.

Breed a dog to fight and kill for generations and this is what you get.
On the other hand, if anyone was looking for a solution to the Social Security and Medicare problems.....

Oh I'm gonna be sick.

My brother had a pitbull. The dog could not help himself. He bit me, he bit my brother, he bit the neighbor, he bit the other neighbor, and he nearly killed a few dogs. My brother's a bit of a psycho, so this is what I have to say about pitbulls and owners: it seems to be a bit of empirical evidence that most people who own pitbulls are psychos! A bit like people who keep dungeons. So watch out for pitbulls and people who own them. You can't have one without the other, it seems!
As for those "nice" people with pitbulls, they will probably end up being their pet's dinner one day... those dogs can't help it.

The same type of incident occurred in Astoria last week.

[16] I'm surprised the dog wasn't put down after biting two neighbors. That's normally a clear sign that it's an aggressive dog, and City Hall doesn't tolerate them.
This is one reason I prefer cats. Ever hear of a cat mauling a person?
[ report this ]
I've never heard of a cat mauling a person, but I have heard of cats who feasted on their dead owner when the body wasn't discovered for a few days. That's why I trained my dogs to use the can opener.

A pit bull ban? Come on. I don't care for pit bulls. They are one of those breeds that take way to much effort to train. I am aware of that and take it into consideration when looking for a dog.
Don't ban the breed. Ban the owner from being a pet owner.
Same goes for parents too.

@[16]"Hahaha - the beginning of every story you'll ever hear from a pitbull owner just prior to their dog eating their baby."
Do you have any actual stories to back that up, because I've never heard that once. However I have seen those comments from pit owners in response to articles that blame the dog instead of the owner for its aggressive behavior.
Yes pit bulls and other dogs like them have been bread for generations to fight, but beagles have been trained for generations to be hunting dogs, and my dog cant even fetch, so there you go.

Staten Island?
Why that is Richmond County.
As for pit bulls, any dog can be vicious and it is usually due to the stupid human (or sub human) that owns the dog.
There are some stats that show labs are the dogs that bite the most.

#13, what I wrote above makes just about as much sense as what you did. Just as there are good and bad people, there are good and bad dogs and good and bad owners. This owner most likely did NOT have his dogs trained and they probably had reign over whatever they wanted. Pits are a lot of work to raise properly, as they've been bred for fighting for years, but it can be done.

the neighbors should of nipped the problem in the bud. anti-freeze plus vienna sausages makes a mighty nice meal.

Dogs are just like a child. If the dog is raised to kill it will kill if the child is raise to think guns and drugs are cool it will do drugs and have guns.
[ report this ]
Steven's right about this. First of all, it's highly likely that this "pit bull" was of dubious breeding. Secondly, many owners of pit bulls tend to buy them for the purposes of showing off their aggressiveness, so these owners train them accordingly.

#26. The difference is that if a chihuahua comes attacking, I'll kick it to death. And so can a typical child.
#19. Cats are evil. I've seen some jump on people's face. Scratch, scratch.

However you cut it. Its the owner's fault.

hey #24 - I made an oops and didn't clarify that I was actually responding to #7 who wrote that nonsensical statement.
I'm sured Seigfried and Roy would have made the same argument about their fucking tigers :30 seconds prior to one of them using their head as a chew toy.
I blame the breed and I blame each and every jackass with a tank top and an attitude or a Napoleon complex who own these shit dogs.
Hey Chubby - after some exhausting research I came across this disturbing article - apparently not only do these dogs maul people to death, they have moved on to raping children:
