Last Night's Action: No Offense

  • Texas 2 Yankees 1: For the second game in a row, the Yankees’ offense took the day off. Apart from an Alex Rodriguez home run and a Jason Giambi triple (yes really) the Yankees only managed two other hits and only drew three walks.

The lack of punch spoiled another good start by Mike Mussina. Mussina went six innings and struck out eight, impressive numbers against a good offensive club, but it was for naught.

  • St. Louis 7 Mets 1: The Cardinals jumped on John Maine early and often, scoring two in the first, and adding single runs in the second, third and fourth to chase Maine from the game. Meanwhile, Kyle Lohse kept the Mets’ offense completely quite, scattering five hits while allowing only an unearned run. New York fell to two games under the .500 mark.

the yankees game last night was so boring that by the 7th or 8th inning, people were doing the wave concurrently in the upper deck, loge, main, and field level seats, and it completed a circuit going clockwise around the stands, through the bleachers, and back to the stands again at least three times.
