Video Suggests Cops Framed Four People on Drug Charges

2008_06_qnscovup.jpgDrug charges against four men were dropped when a video showed they had no contact with undercover police officers before they were arrested. Four cops had claimed they bought crack cocaine from the men, but the video showed otherwise and prosecutors said the accused men, Jose Colon and Maximo Colon and two others, didn't do the crime. WCBS 2 reports, "In the 6 months it took to clear the Colon brothers names, they lost their business and their savings." The Post reports three of the four cops are under investigation and could face seven years in prison if convicted.

Well there's a surprise. Dirty cops in the city. Who would have thought it.

Great combination of laziness and dishonesty.

The Post reports three of the four cops are under investigation and could face seven years in prison if convicted.

Let's not hold our breath until that happens. But there's no law against continuing to cover this story to find out what the outcome of the fraudulent arrests are. NY Post? Gothamist?

wow. this is truly disgusting and scary. I do find it hard to believe that FOUR cops would conspire to frame these guys in this way. What was the motive?

This undoubtedly calls into question every arrest these four cops have ever been involved in, and it creates a big mess for the system to deal with.

Another score for security cameras.

Another score for security cameras.

Yup, for private security cameras...

Awaiting Bingoramirez' crackerfied comments.

Yeah, motive? What's going on?

Wow, that's some serious Fort Apache stuff there. Nice NYPD!

Some people forget that Cops are people too some are good and some are not

Police make their money in over time. Officers often make arrested close to the end of their shifts in order to put in an extra 6 hours of over time doing the paper work for the arrests. Also police are required by their employer to arrest people, they have quotas to fill. If these 4 cops went to this spot to try and arrest some one for whatever reason, but found no one committing any crime, they invent the crime, lest it be a waste of a night.

If the cops that shot Sean Bell were acquitted of all charges, do you, the people of Gothamist, honestly think these guys will do any time?

There are many innocent people in jail because of cop framing. This should shine a spotlight on cops in this country and make you say "Is that person in jail really innocent?"

motive huge egos nuff said.
