As reports come in about Zimbabwean voters being threatened "into voting for Robert Mugabe's" party today, the NY Times' Clyde Haberman remembers when the controversial leader was welcomed at City Hall back in 2002. City Councilman Charles Barron, who hosted Mugabe, doesn't regret the invite and tells Haberman, "Does he do things that I disagree with? Yes," but then adds, "You didn’t care about black Africans when whites were killing them in Rhodesia." [Here's the Human Rights on Zimbabwe.]

Very True. We westerners can be very fickle in what we choose to focus our attention on, especially when it has to do with Africa. But this man single-handedly wrecked the economy of what once was one of the bright spots on the Continent, and now hes stolen another election using intimidation and violence.

Mugabe has killed more black Africans than the "white supremacist" Rhodesians killed, by far, and has put his countrymen in a state of famine and violence worse than anything under apartheid. Charles Barron must be proud.
Why doesn't Charles Barron run for president of Zimbabwe? Or at the least move there since he thinks it's such a great place. Or any other country in Africa since most of the white presence has left and they are back to their tribal war shit again. He loves the black experience so why doesn't he live it in real time?
