This weekend’s vibe has been officially harshed: The perpetually hassled Frying Pan will not be reopening this weekend, contrary to prior reports. The relocated party boat bar and café was mercilessly shut down last summer by the Man over some sort of uptight permit issue, and owner John Krevey says the square community is basically conspiring against him: "It's been horrible. I'm never going to convince them that an old rusty boat is something worth saving."

The original pier 63 barge and the frying pan were the best only public spaces on the nyc waterfront.
Anyone could walk onto the pier and hang out, practice dance, paint, read, and enjoy the river breezes and view free of charge.
It even got better when they opened a very reasonable priced food service.
too their credit they never dissuade brown baggers from hanging out.
I don't think there was any other place on the waterfront where you could have such a nice time without having to spend a dime.
john Krevey also enabled grass roots kayak and canoe clubs to start and pier 63 was also one of the locations of much needed public kayak storage and launch locations on the Hudson.
john Krevey and the Lackawanna barge should be helped, not hindered in reopening.
It was a privately owned but open to public area that really served the community.
i was hoping it would reopened last summer, it is th perfect place to stop and grab a bite to eat on the greenway
