Gay Pride Marches On This Sunday

This Sunday marks the annual Gay Pride Parade. The march will run from 5th Avenue & 52nd St. to Christopher & Greenwich St. beginning at noon -- so either join in on the fun, or adjust your driving and walking routes lest you incur some delays (NYC DoT has some tips). This year should be especially celebratory given that same-sex marriage is now legal in California!

The first NYC Gay Pride March was held in 1970, the year following the Stonewall Riots. The Out at the Center show recently took a look at the history of the parade, which you can watch here.

If you attend on Sunday, be sure to tag your Flickr photos with "Gothamist"! And be sure to pick up this week's special "Gay Pride Issue" of The Onion.

I'm gay but want nothing to do with Pride this year. Ugh, is this how homebody Puerto Ricans feel about their parade?

So are we all allowed to be gay for a day, like on St Patty's day where everyone is Irish for a day? Or is that just the flimsy excuse I've been using?

the gay pride issue of the onion sucks; it's all recycled content.

#2: You can be gay any day you'd like...just point it in the other direction.
