PARTY: The Chelsea Art Museum becomes West Egg tonight with their F. Scott and Zelda Fitzgerald Great Gatsby Party! Channel the slightly insane couple, put on your best 20s garb and get ready to sip martinis into the night. Don't go too crazy though, lest you be seen by Dr. Eckleburg's judging eyes. The admission fee gets you three drink tickets, three floors of art, dance and party and maybe even an afterparty. More details on the summer soiree, here.
9 p.m. // The Chelsea Art Museum [556 W 22nd St] // $30
THEATER: What better name for a play that skewers WASPs than The Cocktail Hour? (Okay, besides Not Tonight, Dear.) A.R. Gurney’s 1989 comedy concerns a writer’s attempt to win approval from his parents to mount a play he’s written about them; despite his father’s assertion that “nobody goes to the theater anymore” he offers $20,000 if the play never sees the light of day during his lifetime. Dry bon mots ensue. This production by Theater Breaking Through Barriers is performed with an ensemble of actors with various disabilities; Martin Denton deems it “very enjoyable.” – John Del Signore
7 p.m. // The Kirk @ Theatre Row [410 West 42nd Street] // $41.25
MUSIC: Tonight marks the kick-off of Live from Down Home, a monthly celebration of roots music at Housing Works, put on by the Jones Street Boys. Tonight they'll be playing along with Luke Temple, followed by a bluegrass jam session. Admission is free, and drinks are cheap -- but if you bring an instrument, they're even cheaper.
8 p.m. // Housing Works Bookstore [126 Crosby St] // Free
FOOD: "Whisky Song: An Evening of Fine Scotch and Amazing Music" pulls together the music of the Mark Rapp Group and Derek Lee Bronston with some serious scotch, including Glenfiddich 12 year old, 15 year old, and 18 year old (scotch, that is), and scotch cocktails. Not bad for a freebie.
8 to 10 p.m. // The Carnegie Club [156 W 56th St between 6th and 7th Aves] // Free
