Last Night's Action: A Big Rebound

• Mets 8 Seattle 2: New York came out angry and scored early as they romped to a sweep-avoiding victory. Maybe it was Jerry Manuel’s decision to change the team's warmup routine, maybe it was the thought of being swept by the worst team in the American League. Whatever the reason, the Mets showed some fire Wednesday night.

  Jose Reyes walked and stole second to start the game. He advanced to third on a wild pitch and scored on a groundout. David Wright followed with a home run and it was 2-0 Mets. Wright hit his second homer of the game in the second to make it 4-0 and Reyes added a three-run shot in the third. Strangely, the Mets did not get another baserunner after the third inning, but they had an 8-0 lead and John Maine made it stick, pitching six-strong innings. The bullpen finished things off and the Mets will now enjoy a day off before the Subway Series resumes on Friday.

• Yankees 10 Pittsburgh 0: Moving Joba to the rotation keeps looking better and better. Wednesday it was 6-2/3 shutout innings from Chamberlain who earned his first win as a starter. Robinson Cano and Bobby Abreu had home runs and Derek Jeter added three hits. Alex Rodriguez broke up a double play in the first with a hard slide that allowed the first two runs to score.
