So, thanks to some eagle-eyed Gothamist reader I am now persona non grata in my building for the "jerks" comment above. Don't take it so seriously, folks! I don't actually think everybody in the building is a jerk. See the website for a fuller response.

If there were cars parked there illegally the cops would have promptly written summonses... They had a hard time witnessing transactions? Funny how they can spot an expired inspection sticker from a block away and pull you over on the spot...

Meh, we live a few more blocks away, and the wife reacted to this story with a big "I told you about this!" Apparently she saw some sketchy goings on (people fighting on the front lawn, for example) on her way back and forth to the gym. If only I could get the jerks in my building to participate in the web site I set up for them. The idea that there is *anybody* in BR who is wired and willing to engage is heartening.

"The police apparently had a hard time making any headway because they weren't able to witness any of the transactions, which were all in the houses." That never seems to stop them on COPS. Sounds to me like some officers were on the Terrone payroll.
