Yesterday, police announced they arrested people running a drug den on 93rd Street in Brooklyn, thanks to the help of neighbors who banded together. Resident Jason Miller told NY1 he and his neighbors "came together through a local web forum and there were many neighbors that were feeling much the same fear and issues that we were already observing."
The web forum is BayRidgeTalk.com, a message board when residents started to voice complaints about the activities at 346-348 93rd Street. The houses, owned by the Terrone family for many years, attracted attention when fights were occurring at night and people were coming and going. The police apparently had a hard time making any headway because they weren't able to witness any of the transactions, which were all in the houses.
The NY Times reports how their observations "turned to action, as neighbors started filing complaints with the 68th Precinct station house and attending Community Board 10 meetings and generally making noise until a narcotics investigation began, leading to the arrests."
Five people were arrested, including brothers Joseph Terrone, Michael Terrone, and Ross Terrone, for selling crack cocaine, heroin and prescription pills.

Its good to see what a community can do when people work together.
"The police apparently had a hard time many any headway because they weren't able to witness any of the transactions, which were all in the houses."
I never knew bay ridge was nicknamed Bar Ridge based on the tags.
oh yeah- tons of bars. none of them fun though unless you're underage or old and racist.
Where am I going to get my crack now?
"The police apparently had a hard time making any headway because they weren't able to witness any of the transactions, which were all in the houses."
That never seems to stop them on COPS. Sounds to me like some officers were on the Terrone payroll.
I live a block away from those houses. They seemed nice, they smile, I smile, we all smile and say good morning.
I'll be moving to within a block from there come September... mainly cos I thought it was a crack-friendly neighborhood. Hmm... time to re-think.
I best it was also the community that created the demand necessary for a drug den to thrive nearby in the first place.
Meh, we live a few more blocks away, and the wife reacted to this story with a big "I told you about this!" Apparently she saw some sketchy goings on (people fighting on the front lawn, for example) on her way back and forth to the gym.
If only I could get the jerks in my building to participate in the web site I set up for them. The idea that there is *anybody* in BR who is wired and willing to engage is heartening.
If only other communities worked together to stop other crimes.
#10- Like the black community?
Zing!
If there were cars parked there illegally the cops would have promptly written summonses... They had a hard time witnessing transactions? Funny how they can spot an expired inspection sticker from a block away and pull you over on the spot...
I think I see a vacancy for the Bay Ridge Co-op, folks . . .
Snitches is bitches. There's gonna be a few 'all hands' tags on Gothamist in that area.
So, thanks to some eagle-eyed Gothamist reader I am now persona non grata in my building for the "jerks" comment above. Don't take it so seriously, folks! I don't actually think everybody in the building is a jerk. See the website for a fuller response.
