As a tribute to the recently deceased comedian George Carlin, Saturday Night Live will be rerunning their very first episode, which was hosted by Carlin in 1975 under its original name, NBC Saturday Night. ("Saturday Night Live" was the name of a Howard Cosell show at the time). Carlin does three stand-up routines on the show, there are five parody ads, Chevy Chase hosts Weekend Update, the Muppets do a sketch, and Andy Kaufman lip-synchs to the "Mighty Mouse" theme song. It's going to tough crawling back to Andy Samberg after this one. [Tonight, HBO will air two Carlin specials, 1977's "George Carlin at USC" and 1978's "George Carlin Again!" starting at 8 p.m.]

"It's going to be tough crawling back to Andy Samberg after this one."
step 1: cut a hole in a box
(sorry, but a lot of those old episodes aren't funny anymore.)
Step 2: Put your junk in that box
I've seen Ep 1 a few times before and if you can get past the utter lack of production values its very funny. Every time I see those old episodes it makes the new ones look very depressing.
Who's Andy Samberg?
Step 3: Make her open the box
Nifty. I've seen this. I'll DVR and ffwd over the Andy Kaufman parts. I am at a total loss as to why people think Andy Kaufman is entertaining, let alone funny.
I must be missing some essential entertainment chromosomes or something because I feel like the only person on earth who doesn't think being a total wackjob makes one a comedic genius.
You can watch the Mighty Mouse skit without laughing?

The genius of Andy Kaufman is that he had everyone believing he was a total wackjob, when in reality he knew exactly what he was doing in his manipulation of everyone around him, including the mass media and mainstream public.
very often the 'production value' is exactly what's wrong with that show. the raw early shows are classics in their entirety. rip george and andy, and if we're lucky this new andy will join them soon, he just plain sucks.

yes, but this doesn't make something humorous to me. i realize i am alone in this and don't need to be converted.
@lanciano,
I wasn't trying to convert, just trying to explain. I've never understood how Rosie O'Donnell has a career in the entertainment industry since she's not talented or pretty.
