Senator Hillary Clinton returned to her day job yesterday and was welcomed like royalty. Politico found that she was greeted by "a crowd of adoring interns, a phalanx of Senate staff, hugs from Democratic colleagues and an ovation from a closed luncheon of Democratic senators." While she only said she would fully support former rival and Democratic candidate Senator Barack Obama, the NY Times reported:
“It is not something I think about,” Mrs. Clinton said in response to a question about whether she would be Mr. Obama’s running mate. “This is totally Senator Obama’s decision.”As for Obama, he has asked his fund-raisers to help raise money for Clinton's $10 million campaign debt "if they have the ability" to do so. The pair are expected to meet tomorrow and make their first public appearance on Friday. At which point, Mrs. Clinton returned to her Senate office to find that her staff had set up a Ping-Pong table while she was gone.
As for Republican candidate, Senator John McCain has opened up a NJ/NY campaign office in...New Jersey. The Sun writes, "The decision reflects a nod to sobering poll numbers and limited campaign funds"--the poll numbers being ones that show Obama leads by 14-15 points in NY. Though a Republican has not won New York since 1984, Edward Cox, chairman of McCain's NY campaign, said the Empire State could be in play and they would target Clinton supporters, "This is a very fiscally conservative state. There are lots of Reagan Democrats."

At least we get to keep her as our senator even if the rest of the country was dumb enough to reject her as our president.
Oh, that's a relief. I thought we were all going to have to suffer. Now I know that everything is rainbows and candy with Senator Clinton still in office.
sen•a•tor•ing
–noun
1. the act of pretending to serve a constituency in order to advance one’s own ambitions
2. the work or art of an opportunistic narcissist masquerading as a public servant
Gee, it almost sounds like you're describing St. Barak there, Tgirl.
So McCain is down 15 points in NY and he closes and boards up his campaign.
Can we make any assumptions now that he's down 15 points in two national polls (Newsweek and LA Times)?
Why the hell would Obama supporters donate money to Hillary's campagain because she ran herself into debt and stayed in the race way too long. I mean, really?
#3 that describes pretty much 90% of all politicians on this Oligarchical 2 party system.
When was the last time Clinton was actually working for the state of New York? Glad to see we have two senators again.
[7] agree there, if the shoe fits...
I have to say, I'm no fan of Clinton (whether it be First Lady, Senator, or Prospective Candidate), but I have a newfound respect for her grace and humble demeanor as the race came to an end.
I didn't feel this way when the continued campaigning after the numbers sealed her fate, but I'm beginning to feel this way now.
I can never understand why people are always complaining about politicians running for higer office are self-serving opportunists. Would a no name nobody get the support and funding to win higher offices? Why don't Tgirl run for the Senate seat and see how many votes she gets.
I'd vote for Tgirl.
...he has asked his fund-raisers to help raise money for Clinton's $10 million campaign debt"
Don't they have more pressing concerns, like getting him into the goddamn Oval Office? I saw her tax returns, they have the scratch. It was her decision not to just beat a dead horse, but tie it to her bumper and drag it into the summer.
Yes, Obama is using a position in the Senate as a springboard for his Presidential aspirations, but at least he didn't move to a hardcore blue state where he'd be guaranteed election for the sole purpose of doing so.
Agree that Obama asking for people to donate to Hillary to help her with her "loans" is not his proudest moment.
There are far more worthy causes for people to donate $10 million to than Hillary's failed campaign.
She should just write another book and have Bill make a few more speeches. Or invest $100,000 in cattle futures... 10 months later, $10,000,000. I understand returns like that are possible.
Is senator clinton panhandling? This sounds like panhandling.
Asking people for a quarter is panhandling. asking them for $10 million is something else entirely.
It's kind of disgusting how much money is raised and spent on political campaigns.
Finally she goes back to work? WTF! I asked this question three months ago about all this primary bullshit and these two worthless pieces of shit are battling it out on the campaign trail and also pulling down a salary as a US Senator. How does that work? It's like I went to Atlantic City and played blackjack for eight months and I lost. Now I want others to pay for my losses? WTF gives?
Yes, Obama is using a position in the Senate as a springboard for his Presidential aspirations, but at least he didn't move to a hardcore blue state where he'd be guaranteed election for the sole purpose of doing so.
That's because he didn't have to. Illinois was solidly blue by the time he ran for the Senate in 2002. It voted for Al Gore in 2000 by double digits.
Oops. I meant 2004.
Hillary needs to take out Harry Reid, solidify her position by "silencing" her critics as well as her enemies, and send a pretty invitation to President Obama to have a nice lunch at the Capitol. Then Bill enters. He runs for Congress and wins, quickly dragging in some old cronies and lays down the gauntlet for Nancy Pelosi. She struggles with her makeup one day and he pounces. Bill and Hill control The Hill. Obama's cornered: suddenly he has to repay that $10 million debt.
Why would McCain waste time in NY? Or in NJ for that matter? Both states are Democratic plantations.
But, I'm glad to see Hillary back at work, she always dreamed about while living in Illinois.
What in the hell did she ever do for this State before she ran for President she and
her Senatorship were hardly ever on the news
in the biggest media center of the USA, New York.
At least Chuck the duck Schumer likes issues and
likes news TV PR.
He still waves his hands toward the
camera lens like they taught him (in 1976) to do.
I hope we can do better than this.
I think IL has always been a solidly democratic state.
Haven't any of you people heard about the totalitarian democratic machine we have here in Chicago?
My one hardcore Republican friend (who three years ago said he regretted voting for Bush but now denies it) bet me $100 bucks that McCain would win New York. Two weeks later he came back wanting to hedge his bet by placing another $100 on McCain winning the national election. So now I have two bets and look like I'll be in the black (so to speak) for $200.
"Reagan Democrats" seems to be the refrain for the McCain campaign's feeble attempts at getting votes in the Northeast. Maybe they don't realize that Reagan was 25 years ago and things have changed (and that McCain is no Reagan). The McCain office is in Woodbridge, the same town that elected Jim McGreevey mayor. Three times.
Yes there is more important things to do the world than clean up after her. So so true! Let her git to work, there are plenty of fast food joints she can make some extra coin with. let her work aside the struggling people she supposivly cares so much about.
There's an elderly sheik in Abu Dhabi that says she can work that debt off "in trade".
