Dave Chappelle to Perform at Kevin Powell Fundraiser

062408chappelle1.jpgEverything’s connected: Kevin Powell was a star in MTV’s very first season of The Real World – now he’s campaigning to be the congressional representative for a district that includes the location of the new Real World apartment in downtown Brooklyn. And not only that, Powell is enlisting the help of comedian Dave Chappelle, who once lampooned the reality series in a hilarious skit called The Mad Real World. Go ahead and take a minute to let all that sink in.

The Observer has it that Chappelle will be performing at a fundraiser for Powell, a Democrat, next month; it’s the comic's first major foray into political advocacy. In addition to helping Chappelle “laugh George Bush out of office,” you can also get your photo taken with him at the event for a donation of $2,300. And for no additional charge, Chappelle will punch you for quipping, “I’m Rick James, bitch!” (He loves that.)

Well, at least Kevin didn't spend his last 15 years on RW/RR Challenges and Gauntlet episodes. Some of those folks are gonna break a hip if they keep going at it.

Has Powell secured an endorsement from Eric Nies yet? THE GRIND!!! Oh man, I am so old.

I'm only going if Julie is going to be there.

White people love Chappelle, Obama and, now, Powell too!! Looking back, he really was the trendsetter for reality tv making black people look like complete idiots.

On a side note: During that argument with Julie, wasn't the crux of his argument that black people cant be racist because they have no power? So, if he wins the election, will he then have power and thus be eligible for his very own racist lapel pin?

Go Kevin!

Don't pick up that candlestick though.

maybe heather can pen a campaign rap?

Kevin should have David & Tami from season two help him out. That would show all of the racist crackers!

Tami: "It WASN'T. NOT. FUNNY!"

I feel bad for this guy. God help me if someday video footage of me at age 20 are used to judge me when I'm a full grown adult.

If you've ever read any of Kevin's books or heard his speeches you'd know that these issues are long behind him and that he is a trusted and respected member of the community. If Chappelle's down with him, that's good enough for me.
