Party Host Cleaned Up, Didn't Help Dying GIrl

2008_06_ciappa.jpgOver the weekend, Natalie Ciappa's parents became worried when their daughter hadn't returned home. After calls to her friends, they found her unconscious in a converted garage-rec room in Seaford, Long Island. The 18-year-old who was days away from graduation was later pronounced dead at a hospital. Now, the party's host, a 19-year-old, was arrested for evidence tampering.

The police say Seewong Sung was cleaning up beer and vodka bottles from the rec room. In fact, when Ciappa's father asked Sung for help in performing CPR until an ambulance arrived, Sung allegedly refused. Mineola Detective Sergeant Gregory Quinn said, "He refused to help. He was continuing to clean up the garage and remove evidence so that the police department and his mother did not know he was having a party."

Police do not think Sung's mother, who showed Ciappa's mother to the garage, realized there was underage drinking, since the garage is detached from the house. Adults can be arrested if they know there is underage drinking going on in their house, as one Southampton couple was this past weekend.

Sung will be arraigned on the felony charges and could faces between 1-4 years if convicted. There are no signs of foul play, and an autopsy is being conducted.

To be fair, if his parents found out he had a party, they'd kill him.

And this is why 18-year-olds should not be drinking.

Not to sound like the "this isn't news" whiners, but... this happened in Long Island. Most of the links provided are to Newsday articles, which is where Long Island news belongs.

LIist?

Jeaz why can't these kids smoke weed instead? Its far safer than alcohol.

gotta believe that there's more than alcohol involved...

Sung's korean parents are going to KILL he.

so much for being the model minority, way to fit in.
now which way to the welfare office, american joe.

where is Sun Yin Sharpton

A Korean throwing an underage booze party? I am shocked, SHOCKED I say!

Unfortunately this type of tragedy is not that unusual across the USA at this time of year. Does anyone know the death count of high school kids killing themselves in auto accidents caused by doing drugs and alcohol to celebrate their graduations?

you know, these snarky comments are getting so tired. there's not one of you smartasses out there who wouldn't fall to pieces if this was your kid.

and, before you start saying "well, if it was my kid, i would've taught her differently... blah, blah, blah" - go fuck yourselves.

Lately, there seem to be so many news stories which do nothing but showcase people's blatant disregard for human life. Sadly, this story is no exception.

What a sad world we are now living in...

so decided to look her & seewong up on the various social networking sites..

and on facebook there's a few memory pages set up where her friends are able to upload pictures of Natalie.. it's pretty sad..

however some of these pictures just make me think.. if this chick was a big pre college drinker already (see picture where she seems to be drinking straight from the absolute bottle)
where were her friends?? did ANYONE try to wake her up??? When i was in HS (in li) everyone who drank excessively were helped properly by friends..

Also, if this is an investigation and getting press..reeeeallly not smart that these kids to put up pictures like that publicly.

poor family.

[11] you know, these snarky comments are getting so tired. there's not one of you smartasses out there who wouldn't fall to pieces if this was your kid.

Snarkiness is all some of these people have. They never can seem to add anything constructive to the comments here.

Unfortunately, her friends may have been part of the problem. She may have fallen in with the wrong crowd, people who think that drinking is "kewl" and that the more you can drink, the kewler you are. It could explain why someone who was described as otherwise accomplished and caring could end up the way she did.

It was just another teen party. These people are just fussing, that's all.

Does the death of one of their peers ever dissuade the rest of the kids to stop drinking? No, because they area all invincible.

There is nothing wrong being a smartass sometimes. On most days I post constructive comments and engage in civilized discourse.

But today is not that day.

Has it been determined what the cause of death was? So until that time comes it's just speculation on the part of the commentators.

Perhaps the host in his own way thought he was doing the right thing and just letting the girl "sleep it off."

you ever been to a korean party? everyone passes around guitars and sings "Kumbaya My lord" and they praise god and shit! They are some subverted people let me tell you. I ain't ever gonna hang around koreans again.

You must mean those Christian Koreans... Yeah, they'll do that.

we still don't know how she died. she could of choked on her own vomit to which the host was cleaning. they're good at removing stains.
no problem, five o'clock OK?

bowelmovement_man you didn't know her so don't you even dare call her a piece of trash. You had no idea what she was like, or what her life was like, or even what she was going through. Don't judge. And have some respect for the deceased. This girl went go to my school, and I knew her. She had a heart of gold, and a great personality.

23 posts and not one 'I'd hit it' comment.
Is it lent or something?

im suprised too but for me doesnt count because im gay.
who else here knows its pride week

I'd hit it, but she's cold and stiff and the coroner just gave her a really unappealing "Y-front".

RIP Natalie. We'll never forget your smile.
